New Target reissues for April this year. Nice to see new Chris Achilleos art for the last three novels, but his new illustrations of Davison, Baker and McCoy are woeful. |

It's amazing how those early Target covers captured my imagination. The Zarbi cover for instance. Far better in my head than what i finally saw on vhs and dvd.

I really like that. It's one i grew up with and saw on transmission as a child. Back then the crazy prawn was a hideous creature of my nightmares.

Listening to Night Thoughts at the moment. This BF was based of an original script commissioned by Andrew Cartmel back in the day for the 1990 season, which of course never happened. This was before they actually started doing "Lost Stories" as a thing, so they basically just adapted the script to fit the standard 7th Doctor series and is thus rewritten to include audio companion Hex along with Ace. 3/4 of the way through at the moment and it's really good, spooky and atmospheric and very much in the mould of the era. Hex is a pretty likable companion, and Sylvester and Sophie both sound like they've stepped straight from 1989. Very enjoyable so far, certainly one of the better audios I've heard. |

Haha, I did not see that but did you see the Sylvester Stallone - Bill Murray hybrid on the Battlefield cover?

Thought i'd bring the chat over here so we don't derail as you mentioned Susan. I really wasn't impressed by The Underwater Menace. As you say even those involved don't rate it. Due to the incredibly small sets the fights and chases round the markets just seemed silly, even by Doctor Who standards, and Zaroffs over acting was frankly embarrassing. The fish people in the sea was nicely done though. You aren't to blame for liking it Susan. We all love stories the majority aren't keen on. |

It was a basic 'base-under-siege' story, wasn't it! Like I have said elsewhere, I enjoyed it I think that (at the time) they knew it was never going to achieve what the writer Geoffrey Orme* envisioned, and so they had fun with it What did surprise me was the fact that it was set in modern times - for some reason, I always thought it was a historical piece * Geoffery Orme started writing in the 1930's, and is the author of a number of 'Old Mother Riley' films!
