This raises the question, 'how important is Susan Foreman to Time Lord history?'

Why do other Time Lords refer to their 'travel machines' as TARDIS's when it is a name that Susan coined? Why do The Master and The Rani etc not call it a Mark 40 or something similar?

You can't re-write but you can press a reset button every time a showrunner decides.

Just as they did with The Lie of the Land but nobody realised.

Talking of which...

Doctor Who: has Steven Moffat handed Chris Chibnall a continuity reset without us even realising? | Den of Geek

I think the problem with the early episodes - Susan's coining of TARDIS being one of them - is that no one expected the show to last more than one series until the Daleks took off.

Even then it was 6 years later before we had any Time Lord back story.

Thinking about it wasn't a SIDRAT also a TARDIS prototype? It's years since i watched The War Games. Perhaps Susan lied all along about the name just to appear clever in the eyes of her teachers and it was a phrase used by the Time Lords already.

I know this isn't Doctor Who, you can also rewrite history and just not care, or make a joke of it, like in South Park when they permanently killed off Kenny the end of season five, having him die muscular dystrophy. Reaction from the fans wasn't overly positive, so they brought him back from the dead at the end of season six, with his appearance greeted with a nonchalant "Oh, hey Kenny" from Stan, and when Kyle asks him where he's been, he points offscreen and says "Over there"!

"So, we asked all our viewers if they could come up with a better name than the Type 40 TT Time Capsule. Remember, that the number to call is 01 811 8055. Now, on the line we have young Susan Foreman. So, what's your idea Susan?"
