The Daemons is at its best at the start. The first two episodes are its strongest. The final two are okay, the middle one kind of drags a bit. But overall I liked it.

Season rankings-

1. The Mind of Evil
2. Terror of the Autons
3. Colony in Space
4. The Daemons
5. The Claws of Axos

Daemons works at its best when the atmosphere is utilised. The wind, the darkness, the gritty feel when the Doctor gets frozen on live TV... I just don't think it carries it until the end though. Azal isn't really that good a villain. He works: again, earlier on when he gets hyped up and you see his giant footprints in the ground. But when he actually turns up proper he just shouts at the Master, who is quite frankly a much better villain. As with the previous two stories did he technically have to be here? No... But thank god he was to spice things up. He is good as the fake minister which had me questioning though- How long has the Master been living in this village? Its established he hasn't been there as long as the other locals but how long exactly is that? Weeks? Months? Did he have to give weekly sermons as a means of integrating with the community? Did he open many fetes? Christen any children? Is there any fan-fiction written about this period in the Master’s life? I can honestly say I'd be a LOT more interested reading something like that than having to listen to Azal's blaring voice. Seriously i'm not kidding

Bok is also better than Azal. A simple enough design but he's very deadly and works well in battle against basically all of UNIT by himself. And it is due to him that we have the immortal line "chap there with the wings: 5 rounds rapid".

The other highlights. There is a scene where he Brigadier threatens to call in an airstrike; the Doctor in return labels the Brigadier an idiot; the Brigadier is forced to relent. Jo then goes on to says the Brig was stupid to call in an airstrike; the Doctor bites Jo’s head off. I like this Doctor but there are a few occasions he goes overboard: this is one of them. She was literally trying to defend him and he humiliates her in front of everybody. He's called the Brig a lot worse than that! Also the fight in the church with Benton and Garvin: the bloody shotgun breaks in half and they continue fighting, pretending the shotgun isn't broken, like nothing happened. Its hilarious.

Grading it: i'd give it a pass mark. Its not my favourite and it is massively over-rated but there's enough good in there to warrant a watch. A decent end to the season and the Master is finally out of the picture. Love the character but the idea that he's responsible for absolutely everything is absurd. Thank god he wasn't in the place of Aubrey Woods in the next story, which could have easily happened if it'd been re-written slightly.

Speaking of which... Day of the Daleks is amazing but as i'm watching the original show as a marathon as originally broadcast, it means I have to sadly skip the much better special edition. On saying that I intend to watch the last 5 minutes again after I finish it if only to see the much better climax. Lots of daleks are better than... Three of them.

Got my upgrade so finally watched Shada. Or rather, what they have done to it to make it palatable for consumption. Well, I liked it. As I like most Who really, being a fan and that, I may be critical of certain aspects ... but this is the nature of fandom if you like ... I don't judge the programme by any other criteria. And Cthulhu help those who make comments about corridors and 'wobbly' sets ... and breathe. Rewatching soon!!

My only complaint is the lack of episode breaks. Ended up having to watch the whole thing in one sitting.

And a comparison with the 'new' CGI version

The new one might look more polished, but I prefer the original transmitted one

I'm sure I spotted a 'break' whilst watching it . So that'll add to rewatching .... which won't be long ...

Are you meaning the new Shada or the old release?

The new animated version is one long continuous film.

No goddammit it's not alright.

What do you think of the animation?

It seemed a marked improvement on many of the releases to me. Perhaps being in colour? Not sure.
