I like the 60's style and the Dalek's. Just cringe at how they simplified the Doctor and also wish Peter Cushing had played his own version of the Doctor, (that would have made the films great) rather than trying to do a vague Hartnel/dodgery old grandfather impression.

More or less exactly what I thought ! Have these movies ever really been classed as Doctor Who movies ( sounds silly I know ) but most Doctor Who forums/websites tend to ignore them .

I'm no expert but i think both movies are just big screen versions of original Hartnel stories made to cash in on the success of the TV version and the popularity of the Daleks.
As such they don't add anything to the real Dr Who stories and because of this are acknowledged by fans but kind of exist in their own parallel universe.

Apparently Steven Moffat wanted to use the posters for the films in the fiftieth. He's even written some script to acknowledge them. Believed to be Ian who sold his story to a film studio, therefore explaining that it's the Doctor's adventures but not quite.. However Studiocanal wanted far too much money from the BBC for the use of them.

Now that's madness.

To my mind, Peter Davison was hideously miscast as the Doctor

I thought he was too young, and too well known to play the role

I have always thought that the character should be (relatively) older, and not someone who is instantly recognisable

As such, he is my least favourite of the 'original' Doctors

Having the Cushing movies take place as films within the established universe is kind of a fun idea. A continuity **** up but then, this is Doctor Who.

And anyone who has a bad word to say against Peter Davison has me to go through! Black Orchid, Earthshock, The Caves of Androzani? Three of my favourites! And like all the others, his Big Finish titles are all great.
