Eccleston is still the best of the NuHu Doctors, and it's not him that sounds bitter here.

The thing is when doctor who returned it got good reviews, so you think that would be enough for him to do a second series.

I agree. It's a very striking picture

All I really know about it, is that it comes from a German edition of the book. The cover art was done by David Hardy, the artist who illustrated (and authored) such books as 'Challenge of the Stars'

It seems that the Doctor Who cover was a special commission for the book, and it also got a large printing in either Starburst or TV Zone magazine, as part of a feature about SF art

TARGET Books from around the world, part 6: Brazil

1: The Day Of The Daleks. Apparently this was the only Doctor Who book to be released in Brazil. I have no idea what is happening with either the Doctor or the Daleks in this one!

It's a very odd cover, the wrong Doctor and Daleks that look like Krotons!

If I close one eye, squint with the other and turn my head to this angle, I think I can guess the Doctor is supposed to be William Hartnell!!

And as for the Dalek, with the single police car light on the top of it's dome...

Mind you, playing Devil's Advocate, it's possible that the artist had never seen the show, and was just going by the descriptions given in the book itself...possibly
