With all due respect, that's not how it happened in 'Destiny Of The Daleks'

The only thing that suggested 'male' was the fact that she wore a copy of Tom Baker's costume

Under that, she was all female

Other than that, it was a line of dialogue in 'The Ribos Operation':

DOCTOR: It's too long. By the time I've called look out, what's your name?
ROMANA: Romanadvoratnelundar.
DOCTOR: By the time I've called that out, you could be dead. I'll call you Romana.
ROMANA: I don't like Romana.
DOCTOR: It's either Romana or Fred.
ROMANA: All right, call me Fred.

Basically saying that women are getting all the big tv roles especially in crime fiction and men are mainly being shown as rapists and villains. Which is true when you watch the likes of Broadchurch, The Loch,Happy Valley etc.

So much for father figures and role models.

Oh and despite this take over the BBC don't pay the ladies anywhere near the amount they pay their own fat cat execs or leading male presenters like Lineker.

Hypocrisy at work is the gist of the article.

Don't answer if it's a political reference.

I will say this though, the amount of pissing and moaning that's filling up pretty much all my social media newsfeeds over the decision to cast a female is absolutely pathetic and funny at the same time
I'm exactly the same as you, except I've never tried watching it! I'll probably tune in when it is broadcast later in the year.

I like doctor who and watching it, but wouldn't say I was a fan or follow it ,
IMO I don't get the female Dr will ruin it , its the script writers directors producers and everyone else who works behind the scene who will ruins programs surely, after all the people who star in it are only doing what they are told ..but im not talking about just doctor who any show really, unless the person the wrong choice or a crap actor ....but hey just my tuppence worth ...

I think main issue with a fair amount of Who stories recent and classic was relying on writers who don't deliver the best scripts. I've watched the program since a child and own many of the classic series on DVD and it's not a new problem. The problem has been bringing back the mediocre writers on the new series too often. The premise for a lot of new Who episodes has been good but have fallen apart as the episodes progressed either by questionable choices or pacing / editing. I don't if the blame lies with the producer or the script editor in some of these cases.

Either way I welcome Jodie Whittaker and will be watching when her first full series appears. I just hope they avoid the 'monster of the week' approach which has started to feel more tacked on in recent years.
