Okay so far this witch Story seems to be a remake of The Shakespeare Code from Tennant's second season. I wouldn't say this was bad (compared to the one with the Pting and the Demons of the Punjab) but its far from great. Shakespeare Code was better. Alan Cumming is a great actor but he's being wasted here. He kind of reminds me of Soldeed from Horns of Nimon. |

Best episode of the series for me. Why? Well i live in the area in which it was set and can see Pendle Hill just a few minutes dog walk from my house. Aside from a five minute spell where it seemed to go into 'Hardship for a woman' over drive there's not an awful lot i'd say was wrong with the episode. Alan Cumming was fun and the script was historically accurate especially in it's methods of witch finding. The zombie witches (Essentially what they were) probably proved quite scary for 7'oclock on a Sunday evening and it was great to actually have a credible and threatening alien race for a change. Jodie came up with her best performance, especially whilst tied to the ducking stool attempting to reason with James, and thankfully kept the dumb gawping look to a minimum the rest of the time. To sum up, whilst it was quite comfortably the best episode of this series, it still wouldn't scrape into the top twenty episodes of Nu-Who. gag and nosferatu42 like this. |
