September 8th, 1966. Star Trek makes it's American premiere, when the episode 'The Man Trap' is aired

Strange that there is nothing on terrestrial television tonight to mark the occasion

Admittedly, 'Doctor Who' is a British show, but there was saturation over the BBC channels when that had it's 50th anniversary. Surely, 'Star Trek' is almost as important

Not just America, but the whole world!

The simultaneous broadcast of the 50th anniversary episode, 'The Day Of The Doctor' is in the Guinness Book Of Records "for the largest ever simulcast of a TV drama, following a global campaign from BBC Worldwide that saw The Day of the Doctor broadcast in 94 countries across 6 continents"

I don't even know if any terrestrial channels currently hold the rights to show Star Trek anymore.
