I really like it, yes. I have the excellent Criterion Blu-ray.

It's very long and a aesthetically a bit 2001-ish with more than a dollop of Tarkovsky-esque storytelling so I don't know whether you'd like it, Dem.

I brought it up a couple of weeks ago when people were bitching about arty-farty films and Fassbinder despite never having seen any of his work.

Default Bug (1975)

Bug (1975)

Any film that stars insects usually taps into peoples fears of them, what Bug does is not just tap into our fear creepy crawly little blighter's,but also nature has screwed on to these pest a bleeding flame thrower, well the ability to start fires any how. And if that was not enough then Bradford Dillman as Prof. James Parmiter starts to experiment on them to make a sort of super cockroach that can complete the Times crossword and play scrabble to boot. Bug is a firm favourite of mine from way back when it appeared on our TV screens usually as part of a science fiction/horror double bill. This was also one of the last movies produced by the late great William Castle,a true showman who knew what his audiences wanted. And Bug has these terrible moments where they appear in some ones hair or attached to an ear, just in the most innocuous places but if you had a cockroach running all over you, wouldn't you freak out. Strange when you see a giant ant or a titanic bunny rabbit you tend to laugh (I think the Goodies maybe to blame) but you have a thousand normal size ants coming towards you or even half a dozen cockroaches from the depths of hell making there way towards your picnic hamper and you sure show a clean pair of heels.I think that's Bug greatest strength the fear of something that small but truly menacing ,getting into out intimate places, and starting fires for pete's sake.,Of course like all scientist meddling in what they should not be meddling in,things go truly astray,Dillman's character soon realises the mistake he has made with messing with mother nature and mutating insects is not and never will be a clever or big thing to do,so scientists stop it.Bug is a B-Movie, but a damn fine example of a simple plot and idea coming together and working, and those cockroaches are pretty good actors too.
