How's that, then? Excessive DNR 'smooths' over the image and makes it softer. So, if less DNR (or none) is being applied, then the new BD should actually be sharper than Warner's release, not softer....

It's a bit of a mixed bag, mate. The films are a bit all over the place. A Hammer owned in the US territory is likely to be completely different to European license holders.
