Can't really blame Raimi for doing that, the property does belong to him. Evil Dead is such a recognisable brand I'm not surprised he's protective of it.

If Bruce is putting his stamp of approval on it, then that's certainly made me more interested than I was before.

Like I say, I'm not totally anti-remakes, so I hope this will turn out well.

When I first saw it as an impressionable teen when it first came out circa '83/'84 on home video, I was stunned by the level of gore on display, but always got that it was played for very dark humour...

I find the original The Evil Dead a laugh riot. It's seriously OTT and played for ghoulish laughs. There's no way you can take the stapstick gore and humour seriously. I don't find it in the least...

I don't think any remake actually 'kills off' the original. It's not as if the original suddenly ceases to exist. If the remake is crap, just don't see it and stick with the original film....
