I think it shows they are great films because they have both longevity and popular appeal. When Danny Boyle made Sunshine, he cited 2001: A Space Odyssey, Solaris and Alien as particular influences....

I've only seen the first two of the 'original' Star Trek films, and The Motion Picture is, by far, the weakest.

I suppose we could do animation and films that include animation, so King Kong, Jason and the Argonauts, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad etc would fulfil the criteria.

I don't think I considered it a science fiction film, which is probably why it's not on my list. It probably fits the criteria, but it didn't cross my mind when compiling the list.

I have them in the same order as you: the Terminator, RoboCop and then Terminator 2. I always thought I was in the minority and that the order would be reversed, we'd T2 as the fan favourite.
