Help Shameless out...

I think I'll make the first suggestion for improving the Shameless community...

Let's get a community.

Whoever reads this thread will be among the early adopters of this site and word of mouth is essentially if the site and label is going to take off. we are passionate about exploitation movies and want to find other people who are too. this site isn't just about pushing product to customers (although I'd be lying if I tried to make out that that wasn't an important reason for it's existence), it's also about creating a community online, especially in the UK where these kind of movies are underepresented in store racks.

I'm in, everybody else up for it?

Sam@Cult Labs 2nd October 2007 08:16 AM

There are a few ways to get the word out...

Send links to like minded friends about this site, pass on the myspace (www.myspace.com/shamelessdvd) to your myspace friends or add and then invite your contacts to the shameless Facebook group (Just search for 'Shameless Screen Entertainment' in the group search)

Paul@TheOverlook 2nd October 2007 10:04 AM

I shall be drawing attention to the site on our forums :)

Sam@Cult Labs 2nd October 2007 10:08 AM

thanks paul, I'll visit your site

Paul@TheOverlook 2nd October 2007 10:19 AM

You're welcome, mate - Almar's already a member of our forum, so feel free to register too.

We've posted the NEW YORK RIPPER competition this morning:

http://www.lovelockandload.net/forum...hp?topic=866.0

...as you can see, there's good response already ;)

Jonny 2nd October 2007 10:21 AM

Count me in to spread the good word too

Where there's one, there's the other! :D

Sam@Cult Labs 2nd October 2007 10:25 AM

This forum suddenly feels alive....

It's been a desert but now the films are on the shelves people are posting at last. Thanks for the help!

ExpatPaul 2nd October 2007 10:06 PM

Since I link to trailers on my site, and since I noticed you have trailers up for both Phantom of Death and New York Ripper, I've posted about both (here and here)

And good luck. So many of these films are getting sucked into the remake machine that it's nice to see that there are still some people out there determined to show why there was such a fuss about these films in the first place.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 16th January 2008 05:19 PM

I've been spouting about these forums over on the anchor bay forums, hopefully we'll have some more recruits soon:)

Almar@Cult Labs 16th January 2008 08:09 PM

Yeah it's a long slow process building a community in this day and age and Marc has done an incredible job building the Anchor Bay forums - we're like a fleck of dust in comparison! Actually it only just came to me this week that we need to do a little trailer plug for the forums on our DVDs so we'll get something suitably cheesy together for that!

Philleh 17th January 2008 12:34 PM

Haha... that's an amazing idea!

Haha...it's your last post over there that convinced me to do the step today.:)

Loved the first "Shameless" releases, particulalry the cover art of NYR:coolblue:

I've been trying to get my favourite import shop here in Helsinki interested in your releases, not the least by ordering them and making them aware of the upcoming uncut releases of "Flavia" and "Night Train Murders".
I hope by the time those two arrive that they'll put your titles into their catalogue.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 17th January 2008 06:25 PM

Welcome aboard mr neal :)

Almar@Cult Labs 17th January 2008 08:05 PM

Wow it's Peter Neal from Tenebrae - my favourite giallo! Not the best but probably my fave for a variety of reasons.

Welome aboard and thank you for trying to get Shameless over in Finland. If they need any more persuasion let me know!

Also do please get suggesting for titles you might like to see us release. With the previously low prices climbing to buy films we need to look elsewhere and if anything that makes life more interesting as we're not just then buying off the shelf but really having to hunt out crazy stuff. Does have to sell more than one copy to you though - that would be the rule!

Sarah@Cult Labs 17th January 2008 09:52 PM

I've been inviting people to join the Shameless Facebook group and a few have actually joined up. Think the Facebook group could do with being a bit more lively, maybe with links to the competitions on this site and stuff like that. Most people I know seem to use Facebook rather than Myspace these days!

Almar@Cult Labs 17th January 2008 10:18 PM

Sounds like there's a vacancy for a job!

Sarah@Cult Labs 18th January 2008 08:42 AM

I don't mind trying. I can't commit to doing it all the time but I can definitely commit to doing it when I'm avoiding my dissertation! ;)

Almar@Cult Labs 18th January 2008 09:33 AM

Well right now it's getting very little attention as we smear ourselves very thinly so any love will help it out! PM me and let's sort something out!

If anyone else has some bright ideas then let's hear 'em. Labels 'run by fans for fans' tend to fail (usually because whilst it would be lovely to release all the gaps we crave to fill in our DVD collection they won't sell more than a dozen copies!) but there's got to be a middle ground.

One thing in my mind is to redevelop this site so ideas for what you'd like to see would be appreciated. One thing we do plan to do is put up the cut seconds from NYR and Venus in Furs - I hate to think of people missing out when they're paying their money!

Philleh 18th January 2008 11:36 AM

Do the BBFC refund the £11 they charge per minute if they make any cuts over a minute? lol

If they don't, as I suspect, then that's very rude!

Almar@Cult Labs 18th January 2008 03:18 PM

BBFC costs are one of the things that immediately hobble a small UK distributor and make releasing films (like NYR) a longer, costlier and far more difficult process. That said since Flavia and Night Train went through we're all smiles!

Same here! it's the movie, which changed the way I watch the genre, and films in general, forever, when I watched it for the first time in the very early 90's.:)

I'll PM you a few more details, because I think that's a rather good idea.

vincenzo 18th January 2008 09:36 PM

Hey Peter. Another familiar AB regular joins the ranks. :)

Peter Neal 31st January 2008 08:07 PM

Hi, vincenzo!:)

I also noticed a couple of familiar names from the ABUK board.

Would be great if discussions would get a bit more crowded, because there are already lots of interesting topics here in sight.;)

A Shameless DVD of "Flavia" has just found a home in Helsinki Today.

Almar@Cult Labs 31st January 2008 08:40 PM

I love to think that Shameless DVDs are over in Finland! Which sleeve side will you be displaying Peter?

Peter Neal 2nd February 2008 10:57 AM

Most certainly the one with the classic poster artwork!

But I have to say, I think it's a great idea to offer this kind of choice for forthcoming releases, because I like the "Shameless" look too, so depending on my mood I just might switch the front covers every now and then after revisting the discs.:)

Almar@Cult Labs 2nd February 2008 10:59 AM

I used to do that with video covers when I'd wander around my flat very bored and decide it was time to rearrange some titles and flip over some sleeves - Death Warmed Up on the Medusa label was always a favourite as the two looks were very different.

Peter Neal 2nd February 2008 12:25 PM

It's a neat treat for collectors, which might be worth stressing a lot more in adverts etc, because I'd assume quite a reasonable amount of positive reactions/interest.:)

Almar@Cult Labs 2nd February 2008 03:45 PM

Indeed! Can't afford adverts though so no danger of anything going on there but the next step is amend the site to better sell the DVDs and what they offer.
