Judging from a few scant TV appearances Newman seems a nice enough guy and if i recall rightly his 1988 tome Nightmare Movies was the first book on horror films i picked up once i got seriously into the genre.

Not a bad publication with much more text than stills and a decent read despite being outdated.

His commentaries with that other bloke (Name escapes me) on the r2 HALLOWEEN II and THE DEAD ZONE were quite entertaining.

I used to bump into Kim Newman at various horror festivals.
Always looking fab in his bling waistcoats, flock coats and top hats!

It's a ****ing disgrace he's shoved into a dungeon! It's a tragic morsel thrown out to fans of non-Hollywood flicks that aren't whored around by journo pimps.

I miss the days of endless fanzines. Where the ****ing 'dungeon'....was the whole damn house!

You'll be pleased to know that he is working on a updated edition of Nightmare Movies at the moment

True.Very true.
Unless you subscribe to Shivers or Fangoria, then these other mags offer bugger all to genre fans.
We're supposed to be grateful that every Halloween they pump out a 'feature' using the same horror films year after year...

I stopped buying the mainstream mags about 2 years ago. Fed up with them putting down most old horror/exploitation fiulms but praising the latest hollywood shit. ASnd the worst thing is a lot people go by their every word.

They need to realise thats it is OK to like old/obscure horror.

Couldn't have said it better myself and they say the old ones are the best ones!
