Arrow Video: July 2011 New Releases
Three releases have been announced this month, the first of which is: The Kentucky Fried Movie, a sketch show-type comedy film, written by the Zucker brothers and directed by John Landis. This had been released previously but now has a raft of new extra features and will be released on July 4. Next up, hitting the shelves on July 11, is Slaughter High. This slasher from 1986 checks all the boxes for a 1980s slasher film and boasts more extra features than you can shake a stick at plus new artwork from none other than Graham Humphreys! Released the same day (June 11) is Brian De Palma's Obsession. Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock thrillers, particularly Vertigo, this is a tale of fixation when a successful businessman, whose wife and daughter were murdered in a burglary, sees a woman who bears a startling resemblance to his late wife. This is released for the first time on Blu-ray on June 27. Finally, on July 18, Tobe Hooper's The Funhouse has its Blu-ray debut in the UK with plenty of new and exclusive extra features, artwork by Graham Humphreys and high definition picture and sound. Hooper is one of those directors who hit the jackpot with his first film (the unforgettable The Texas Chain Saw Massacre) and has spent the rest of his career trying to match it. Nothing has ever quite matched his debut for intensity or terror, but many would suggest this is one of his better films.
