When my son was 4 he came home singing, "Baa baa rainbow sheep, " from school. True! We are not allowed to call a blackboard a blackboard any more. Does anyone actually believe that anyone really "felt offended" by hearing Baa baa black sheep or to look at the blackboard? What a load of PC twaddle!! Whenever you hear someone say, "You can't say this or that." it normally says far more about the person saying it......
The problem is not caused by ethnic minorities complaining but by "pale" people who "believe" that it might cause offence, showing how their ignorance is only eclipsed by their arrogance and how miss-informed they actually are.
No one has complained about the language in Fawlty Towers ever before, what is the point in cutting it now, 35 odd years later?
Now with the BBC slashing anything and everything that "might" cause offence to someone, somewhere and the BBFC bringing in it's new policy on sex and violence, (Demanded by the British public - All 35 of them, including the one who fell asleep and the few who had to be shown they were wrong!) expect more censorship and PC apologists whinging!

Again, it seems like most of these things don't offend the people being portrayed, but rather, others. I find all these shows extremely funny, and it doesn't make me racist, homophobic, or whatever. For everyone's enjoyment (or disgust)....

For the record:

A 'Mick' is the only person who can make jokes about the Irish
A 'Nigger' is the only person who can make jokes about black people
A 'Queer' is the only person who can make jokes about gay people
A 'Spic' is the only person who can make jokes of Ei-Ties

etc!

*Note - yes, this is an ironic post!

If I was to get offended about everything I saw on television/films/books/forums etc, I would be sitting on the sofa, in silence, with the lights off!

Personally, I love those kind of shows which I grew up with, things that someone would describe as 'offensive'. Regular readers know my personal backstory, and I am more than willing to laugh at myself/stereotypical portrayals of people like me

Any shows I don't like...I DON'T BOTHER WATCHING!

Why can't others laugh at themselves?

WHAT ARE YOU HIDING AWAY FROM????

I was presuming Gojirosan was joking in his earlier post.

If he was serious then i too totally disagree.

Only the ones I want to turn into bitch-fests, Mr. Dike!

Seriously, this thread is not the place for things like that - it is a serious matter being discussed here

I wasn't joking at all. Most (not all) of these old British sitcoms are dreadful and quite offensive. I do not, however, approve of censoring them. They are what they are.

Guess we'll all just have to agree to disagree. I don't find any of them offensive at all.
