Default Anime suggestions needed...

Hello to all anime fans on here...been a casual fan of anime for years and am looking for some suggestions on anime series/films I might like.

Also looking for good cheap anime dvd/bd bargains.

I own next to nothing on dvd...(but I do have some vhs tapes).

Here's a few anime series/films I like to give you an idea what I'm after:

When I was young i was crazy about these...I watched them on French tv since they had lots of Japanese series,Belgian tv had almost none.

and a bit later...

And then...

AKIRA

Wicked City

The Professional: Golgo 13 (never seen Queen Bee btw,any good?)

Ninja Scroll

Fist of the North Star (1986)

The most modern anime I've watched and liked was Appleseed (2004).

Thank you for the suggestions.
From these I only have ever watched Ghost in the Shell so far.
Was already thinking about getting Vampire Hunter D though.

For Grandizer...try Big O. I watched it recently and was flabbagasterd by how great it was. Simply stunning.

If you enjoyed Sailor Moon (join the club ) then check out Kunihiko Ikuhara following works. Revolutionary Girl Utena and Mawaru Penguindrum. The former is, for my two pence, one of the greatest anime evr made and one of the most distinctive. Very odd and very complex it's a great character study of human emotional issues and, considering it's apparent target audience, very dark and sexualy graphic. The latter is outstanding also and an amazing take on humans dependance on technology, a progression of a theme predominent in RGU, so the two are sister series so to speak.

Cowboy Bebop is a given, an is a must view for all humans on planet earth. Stop what you doing and start watching it NOW!

As for films, avoid GITS and it's sequel. Watch the TV series, Stand Alone Complex, instead.

Interesting, I adore the two Mamoru Oshii Ghost In The Shell movies; he's one of my general favourite directors animation or otherwise. I'm actually currently watching both Revolutionary Girl Utena and The Rose Of Versailles after putting them off for so long and am thoroughly enjoying them both.

Maybe I need to give GITS another watch then as it's ages since I last watched it?

Project A-KO is fun if you like the schoolgirls and giant robots genre.

Thanks for the suggestion,I remember the name from way back but will have to look into it again.

Been busy all day looking up series and films...had lots of fun though.

I'll be posting a pic of my tiny anime dvd collection later btw.
I've got more on vhs but they're not that easy to get out of my "archive".
