It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.s13e03.
I was very dubious about this episode,I mean an episode without the guys,with only a brief cameo from Frank and an even smaller one from Mac and Charlie on a phone,well it seemed like a recipe for disaster.But im glad to say that my fears were allayed and the episode in general was very good,not top tier Sunny but still a good crack at doing the old recycling an episode idea,,which they have used in a previous episode to good effect...Even if you do not know who Wade Boggs is (lets be honest everything is just a google click away now a days) the original episode entitled The Gang Beats Boggs,is a definitely a Sunny classic,encompassing everything we love about the show,sex,drink,drugs more sex and the ghost of Boggs (even though he's not dead).Basically the gang try to beat Boggs alleged drinking of 70 beers before a big baseball game on a plane, you've heard of snakes on a plane well this is beer on a plane..In ."The Gang Beats Boggs: Ladies Reboot" ,well the ladies of Sunny try to emulate there men rivals to beat the Boggs record.What saves this episode is they don't try to crowbar any new character into the story,so you have Mac and Charlies mums,the waitress,Artemis and even Mary Lynn Rajskub as Gail the Snail...And of course Dee who as normal ends up a total drunk wreck.Whats noticeable about this season is that most of the stories have been written by female writers and judging by the credits its also women directors,which is no bad thing,and as Artemis points out you are not expecting gross out humour from women...well on Sunny you probably are...

Time's Up for the Gang

Hardly surprising with everything that happened with Weinstein and a number of celebrities that the gang turn their focus on to sexual harrasment,something which Dennis may be quite familiar with.So it's hardly surprising that this episode is quite a Dennis heavy one,with the gang being dragged into a sexual awareness seminar,because Paddy's Pub has made the shit list of places that are sexual hostile to women.
It's a classic It's Always Sunny scenario,the team managing to hijack the proceedings,with Dee relishing the fact that this is payback time against the guys,with each member having their past misdemeanors put under the spotlight,and everybody breaking out in a sweat due to the climate.It's very reminiscent of the training episode of The Office where Brent hijacks the proceedings,and this is what happens here with the two rather in ineffectual speakers getting side tracked by the gangs lack of ability in being able to concentrate on more than one thing at a time,much like in the episode with the therapist,they hijack the whole thing for their own ends.And like that episode its Dennis who is really pulling the strings. A great episode which references plenty of past shows,and we also get to find out what night man was actually about.

Its great that after that initial hick-up with the very weak first episode,there back up and running again,in fact the Boggs Ladies re-boot is definitely in my favourite Its Always Sunny episodes....

Tackling the white elephant in the room head on,Dennis tells the gang that he may or may not go back.And while the gang themselves all look very un-interested in weather Dennis stays or go,its in fact the fans he's really addressing here,and considering how very integral Dennis character is to the show,it kind of shows how important his character is to the future of the programme,and just when we think were going to get some answers to the big question,whats really on Dennis mind is not his surrogate family miles away but his beloved range rover.Of course as we know Mac blew it up and the end of last season with a rocket launcher he bought for Dennis,so Dennis is now confronted with a burnt out shell of a car...I think we can honestly say that this season is definitely back on track now,and i am going to stop saying that now as im boring myself with all this,this show very rarely lets me down im glad to say.I also need to stop saying its a classic episode,but it does feel like one of those multi layered stories where so much is going on its hard to believe that the show is only about 23 mins long,as the gang each have there own integral story to tell..Dennis wants a new Range Rover,but makes do with a economy car and seemingly loses his mojo,Charlie and Mac are bullied by a gang of kids on bikes,Frank's car license expires and decides to cheat the exam and Dee see's her status in society rise as she hangs out with some Desperate Housewives types due to her owning a new range rover...Whats not to like,Frank keeping porn in a tree trunk,Dee getting revenge,Dennis trying to be a geek and Charlie and Mac beating up some children,did I mention this was a classic episode...oh and Rick Astley....

This should of been called The Gang tries to be PC,and of course they go about it in a fairly unusual way,in what do you call the toilet,taking gender fluidity into consideration of course...The Gang are all set to go and see Jimmy Buffet in concert,although Charlie gets him confused with "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" sung by Rupert Holmes.Dennis is looking particularly snappy in his ship captains hat and Hawaiian shirt,as does Mac in his rather louder Hawaiian shirt.Its Always have never been squeamish about using toilet humour,and in this episode they pretty much cover every aspect of who can use which toilet and for what reason.In this episode we learn that Charlie likes to cross dress while he uses the toilet,where as Frank likes to carry a gun because its in the constitution and that Mac feels he has the right to use the Women's toilet because women like men as well as gay guys.The logic of it all is obviously based on the whole issues of gender identity and the increasing awareness of trans gender issues.Of course being that this is Always Sunny,your never going to get the gang to agree on anything as complicated as this let alone coming up with a new name for the toilet.And when Dee suggest that they should treat everyone as equals and show people the respect they would want to be shown,she is then of course berated and put back in her place.Its not until they all finally agree on a name that they can all go and see the Jimmy Buffet concert...
