Given that both the TV thread and the Twin peaks thread are full of people who haven't seen it yet, and that half the fun of the show is talking about 'what it all means' (if it means anything at all) I thought I'd put this thread up for people who are up to date with the show. So...............

Episide 08.

the show starts of where episode 07 finished with 'evil coop' escaping prison. There's a double cross in the desert and evil coop appears dead. Then the real interesting stuff starts...

Black figures emerge from the desert and appear to perform some kind of 'ritual'. These figures become important later in the episode but we have glimpsed them before. Once in the Jail cell next to William Hastings (matthew Lillard) and in the corridor of the morgue when discussing the apparant corpse of Major Briggs. In this second scene a music cue appears that will be heavily used in episode 08.
The dark figures remove what looks like Bob and then seem to ressurect coop.
Given this coop is a doppelganger, with back to front fingerprints, he may be a vessal for Bob. Previously I'd thought people were simply posessed by BOB however as good coop is also there it appears Doppleganger coop may be a 'construct' of the black lodge. There was a line from Gerard in the red room with Dougie, the spitting image coop replaced, that indicated 'someone made him'. Perhaps a ruse of BOB so he cannot be returned to the black lodge? He does indicate that he had put things in place. It could explain why there is a hit out on Dougie.

The show then goes back in time to July 16, 1945. The trinity test. the first time the Atomic Bomb was tested. We see inside the blast, with some of the most amazing visual imagery that Lynch has ever captured to film. More importantly we see what appears to be BOB apopear from the blast in the same form that he is brough out from evil coop. Is this the origin of the black lodge? Perhaps something was triggered by the blast that altered the 'other world'. We get to see the giant who seems to be in some kind of structure similar to the one coop landed in when he left the red room. He see's the blast and BOB escape so he appears to float in the air and release a light that contains Laura Palmer. Was she created by the white lodge to combat what was released? We also see the creature that appeared in the glass box project some kind of substance that contains BOB.

The show then moves further forward in time. Black figures that we saw earlier emerge from the desert and seem to congregate at a convineince store.

In fire walk with me. Phillip Jeffries, who seems to be tied to evils Coops criminal career, tells Cole that "they live above a convenience store". He says that he's been to 'one of their meetings'. Are the denziens of the red room linked to the Atomic blast? More importantly what do the FBI and the air force (with Major briggs links) know about it. Check out the image behind Cole at his desk at FBI headquaters...

Like something out of a nightmare the dark figures emerge from the desert. After freaking people out on the highway one of them heads to a radio station and kills the people there before broadcasting a strange poem..

This is the water and this is the well,
Drink deep and descend,
The horse is the white of the eye,
and is dark.

Water has often been seen as a symbol of purity. My theory is this is calling down the residents of the Black Lodge to earth, being seen as a source of purity which they feed on.

The horse is the white of the eye may refer to the horse seen in the original series and the white eyes of the dopplegangers. The white horse being seen as a symbol of impending death/violence.

Cooper and Phillip Jefferies have both been based at one point in buenos aires.

"means "Good Airs" or "Fair Winds" in Spanish"


the 'ARM' in the delted scenes on the Peaks set says they descended from air.
They may have been called down from the air by whatever came from the desert but also may have some link to buenos aires. Also note the connection with the FBI as Phillip Jeffries was also an agent and appears to have been investigating.
