Thanks for that. I didn't know and presumed it was a similar situation to the Buffy one where they produced a widescreen picture from a 4:3 ratio.

Buffy was the same. Definitely more pic at the sides (mostly dead space though) a little less top/bottom sometimes, at least in later seasons. Here's a shot from both ratios on the two shows.

I think it was issues with the early Buffy seasons. Some of my dvd's are widescreen.

Just as a footnote. I went looking to see if there was a problem with the early series, clicked on a site that mentioned it called Whedoninfo and got assaulted with one of those 'Your browser is frozen, call .....' windows. Tossers!

Just had a look, and it's pretty non-consistant. Some of the early Buffy episodes have more at the sides and some are cropped. That's the Hellmouth for you!

Television @ The Digital Fix - Go behind the scenes of The X Files with this new 21-minute featurette

I've not watched this featurette, so I cannot comment on how good it is

Apparently it's got loads of spoilers for the new season in it.

The first episode didn't go down too well.

Ouch!

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

Quote:
"In messy, tedious form, the revered sci-fi series starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson limps back for a limited run on Fox.

"Maybe treason can be averted if the five episodes after this will improve greatly. Maybe those five will reinvigorate the characters and the concept (and the actors). But maybe sometimes its better to leave things alone, to let them be about their time and place. Unearthing them for further exploration just proves you can't go back again, you can't recreate the original magic — and you run the risk of raising the question of whether things were so magical in the first place."
VARIETY
Quote:
"There are always elements of crass commercialism baked into the DNA of revivals — nobody dusts off Full House for the high art of it — but perhaps an even more nagging sense of reassembling everyone just for the money in Fox's joyless The X-Files.

"Brilliantly promoted for months, this six-episode reunion, premiering with a kick-start from the NFC Championship game, is virtually assured of attracting a sizeable audience, at least initially. But based on the premiere, the harsh truth in here is that it's as if creator Chris Carter and his collaborators have forgotten what people liked about the show."

Not sounding good at all, but I always found Carters stuff to be some of the poorest of the show, so wonder if that's the case here. But it could be another case of critics getting it wrong, not the first time that's happened, shows etc that critics have hated and everyone else loved

To be fair I always thought that about the original series, when it was good it could be spectacular, but when it was not so good it could get a tad 'slow' shall we say, with not much happening for 40 of its 50 minute run time, a problem in common with a lot of U.S. drama at the time.
