The Wire: Season One is starting soon on Sky Atlantic. Is it worth watching?

Definitely. It's one of the greatest TV show ever made.

At first you may wonder what all the fuss is about, but if you stick with it you'll be richly rewarded. One of the show's taglines is 'All the pieces matter' and it's so true. One seemingly innocuous scene early on will have ramifications seasons later.

Plenty of shows have been labeled 'The best show ever', The Wire has a legitimate claim to that title.

It's a masterpiece, the only downside is that you'll feel a sort of void once it's over. I can't recommend it enough.

I recommended it to my parents, who gave up after the first episode because they couldn't understand what people were saying!

It takes a while to figure out who is who and for your ears to tune into the Baltimore dialect and some of the vernacular. However, once you do that, you should be hooked and find repeated viewings all the more interesting. I've seen the first season four or five times.

I thought it was very good, both as a prequel to Breaking Bad, and is a stand-alone show, which is far enough removed from the events with Walter White that it's accessible to people who haven't seen Breaking Bad.

it is a different kind of show, and Saul is different in it (it's set some years before he has the setup to which Jesse and Walter go to for legal advice) and the tone is different, but it's still extremely well written and terrifically acted.

Finished Season 1 of The Strain a few nights ago. Really enjoyed it, one of the best shows I've watched in a while.
