Three episodes into Vinyl (2016).

The pilot (directed by Martin Scorsese) at nearly two hours really immerses you into the 1973 New York music scene as we follow the life of music mogul Bobby Finestre (Bobby Cannavale - only just seen him as the terrifying Gyp Rosetti in Boardwalk Empire) and his record company American Century.

Featuring a soundtrack to die for and guest starring a whole host of big music names, or should i say actors playing them, it's riveting viewing especially for music fans. Third episode - Whispered Secrets - is a hoot as one of Finestre's underlings attempts to talk a certain Alice Cooper into dropping his band and signing for American Century as a solo artist. Heads will roll. In more ways than one.

Then there's Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant, wow, he seemed to be a nightmare to work with.

So far, so good. Vinyl is to the music industry as The Deuce was to porn, and both, set in the same New York, make great companion pieces.

I've seen Vinyl twice and intend to watch it again and then check out the commentaries. I haven't seen The Deuce, but it sounds like something I'd really enjoy.

You'd really like The Deuce if you like Vinyl. As i mentioned thay both pretty much play out in the same world.

From what I've heard and read about Zeppelin, the characterization of Peter Grant was spot on

Alice on a golf course in 1973 was a bit questionable. It was only after he had been in rehab for his drinking (circa 'From The Inside' 1978) that he started playing, and after he had kicked the cocaine habit (circa 'Dada' 1983) that he seriously immersed himself into the game

It's possible he was on a course in 1973, but I very much doubt he would have known his nibblick from his #9 iron!

I know exactly what Alice was doing in 73 (The Who and Zeppelin too) thanks to that book i bought recently by Michael Walker which documents the full year with him.

Press Gang: A Quarter to Midnight. On a Friday night, Lynda manages to get herself stuck in a company's security vault. It won't be opened again until Monday morning, and her mobile phone is broken. Great, she thinks, what a way to spend a weekend... until she realises the vault is airtight, and she'll be dead long before Monday... Press Gang only did a small handful of episodes that saw characters in genuine life-and-death situations, but when it did they were usually corkers, and this is no exception. Being mildly claustrophobic, I find this one pretty damn scary.
