Finally watched The Exorcist series. It was a lot better than I thought it would be. The conspiracy story really helped move thing along. Worth a look.

Luke's Kingdom (1976)

Oliver Tobias stars in this gritty Australian /UK series about British settlers in colonial Australia. With some episodes directed by Peter Weir this wasn't a bit like i was expecting. Jolly historical romp ala Tobias in New Zealand set Adventurer (1986) this is not. More a precursor to series like Deadwood and Black Sails than anything.

What we have is edgy drama as unforgiving as the landscapes Tobias and co are trying to tame.

The treatment of the Aborigines is sickening to see, and it's no better for the convicts sent out there as slaves. Story lines dealt with including soldiers brutally raping a young woman, drought hitting the land - i'm sure the dead sheep were real, you can practically smell their burning bodies, prostitution, incest, squatters, outlaw raiders. It really is 13 episodes of frivolity, laughs and japes.

At least Joseph (Nossing in ze vorld can ztop me now!) Furst makes me smile.

The Incredible Hulk: Never Give a Trucker an Even Break. A rather poor episode that seems to have been written solely for the purpose of reusing a ton of footage from Spielberg's Duel - did they really think people wouldn't notice?! It's one thing to use stock footage, it's another to write an entire episode around someone else's action scenes! The worst episode thus far, though I did like the first Hulk-out.

I finished watching the fourth season of The Walking Dead last night and am going to continue straight onto the fifth season tonight, then the sixth and seventh. I'd forgotten what a brilliantly realised show the whole thing is, not to mention how grim!

Fargo season 3 started stateside last night, probably the highlight of my televisual year alongside Better Call Saul.

I kid you not when i say Luke's Kingdom is grimmer than The Walking Dead ever was in it's first four seasons. (I've only seen those first four up to press)

As I haven't seen it, I'll take your word for it – Luke's Kingdom sounds extremely downbeat.
