Lazy writing or not, back in the day it was an accepted kind of humour ...alongside Bernard Manning "this darkie goes into a gay bar" and Jim Davison "Chalkie Nick-Nick-Nick" type jokes

At the time, they were funny

Isn't Love Thy Neighbour just a show about bigotry and racism, a cringe-inducing display of outdated attitudes and language?

Out of curiosity, I watched the first episode on YouTube and didn't laugh once. Because of the poor writing, racist language, one-dimensional characters, and unconvincing acting, I'm not surprised it isn't repeated.

Last night, I watched the third series of Ghosts and thought it was very good. There were some welcome character developments and revelations, and I would welcome a fourth series with more adventures from the residents, both dead and alive, of Button House.

I'm sure i'll offend some here, but they're still funny. I bought the film version of Love Thy Neighbour a while back and enjoyed it.

Was it the aired or unaired pilot episode? I watched the unaired pilot and didn't really like it but with the original I found it more funny, it is bigotry and racism from both sides.

Er, I actually meant that the excreta that was Mind Your Language was lazy.
Just saying.
I like the LTN film. It has some spectacularly racist bits in it. History is there to learn from, not to destroy willy nilly. That way we do learn from it ahem.

I watched the pilot just now.

I laughed a few times. The funniest parts were just simple comedic writing regarding nicking the Hydrangea and hanging basket before the new people moved in and then getting found out whilst sat together on the sofa.

Is the film released by Network? It should look great if it's one of their newer bd's.

Yep.

The trailer is something to behold as well, especially the way the narrator describes the characters of Eddie & Bill.
