Can anyone recommend The Inner Sanctum Mysteries or 976 Evil?

Most modern movies / discs will look good on upscaled dvd as long as it's not being watched on a 65" screen or similar, but some of the older ones really don't.

Anchor Bay's Two Evil Eyes and also Halloween II from Sanctuary. They don't look great. I noticed Halloween II in Asda today for £3. It's the same release as the Sanctuary one with the Kim Newman / Stephen Jones commentary and was going to get it as an improvement over the one i currently own, then noticed it was from Scanbox and decided it would be the exact same print as the one i already have.

The two dvd's i watched last night Pumpkinhead Ashes to Ashes and Hell Fest looked really good on a 4K tv.

My Creepshop disc is this old R1 Warner Bros release. The PQ is so bad. It’s so super dark during the Jordy Verril story that you can barely see the imagine at all.

All these sales

I'm really missing that £20 a week Universal Credit top-up at the moment!

In regard to the Inner Sanctum Mysteries it depends on how you regard 1940s B mysteries and Lon Jr's acting?

For me he gives a good account of himself in these movies. None of the films are anything special but they are well made chamber pieces, moderately entertaining and short enough not to outstay their welcome.

PS I wouldn't watch them one after another though...

Amazon horrors 2 for £15

https://www.amazon.co.uk/promotion/p..._ALZQJW8AUPAK8

It's on until November 11th.

Justin101 15th October 2021 12:58 PM

These are essentially the same ones that HMV are discounting so a good 2nd avenue for those who can't get to HMV or use their site. Only thing it's missing is a handful of the Premium Collection exclusives.

Can you find it by following the link on this page?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...KL5A1OLE&psc=1

It's at the bottom right of the cover image.

No. That link isn't taking me to any page. Just says this page doesn't exist.
Don't matter Dem. Sounds like much the same offers as HMV.

It takes me to Torso's product page.

Basically it's Shameless Blu-rays and 88 as well.

If you only want one or two then they are cheaper than Powerhouse' website but if you want six then it's cheaper from their home site as it's free postage at £60

Will only be a couple, I definitely want The Damned.

Demdike@Cult Labs 19th October 2021 05:19 PM

Looks like the Powerhouse sale begins on Friday.

There's a clock counting down on their homepage.

Best not look at the Classics Films Direct sale.

Death Laid an Egg on Blu for £4.

Tower of Evil Blu for a fiver.

Demdike@Cult Labs 21st October 2021 05:50 PM

FFS! Try and hold off until you've seen the Powerhouse sale tomorrow.

The dvd i have is pretty ropy. It's the early release from DD Films and plays on the tv in letterbox format which is crap.

It's always worth to add some more Rollin movies into the collection, but CF do some many sales per year, it's not worth this time.

Agreed. I've just placed my order and jettisoned all the Franco and Rollin ones i considered and just bought Tower of Evil and Witchfinder General.

Justin101 22nd October 2021 06:09 PM

I'd be weary about some of the Rollin ones as they are still censored versions. Demoniacs and Rape... are definitely cut versions, not sure which other ones though. I started buying the Redemption ones but they are more expensive.

It was actually things like Death Laid an Egg and Lady Frankenstein plus a couple more i jettisoned.

They can wait.

Especially when I've just laid out £86 to Lime Wood Media.

Justin101 22nd October 2021 06:18 PM

Lady Frankenstein looks great! Definitely pick that one next time at least.

I will in future. The Nucleus releases are always in the CFD sales.

However i'm now very penny less in monthly disposable income terms and have 13 days until my credit card rolls over.

I know what you mean I'm doing the Emu method of coping at the moment, stick my head in the sand and pretend like I haven't spent a fortune already and I only got paid last week haha...

Just think what you really, really want to watch. That's what i did.

I'd like Fascination and The Devil's Nightmare but as has been said. These are often in CFD sales.

I'm also not convinced that these Blackhouse titles will have had much of a restoration.

Any thoughts as i'm sure you'll have one or two.

Justin101 22nd October 2021 07:10 PM

They're identical (except for cuts where applicable) to the Redemption BD discs, they are an improvement over the old Redemption DVDs for sure, especially when it comes to the subtitles which weren't re-timed when it came to the NTSC to PAL conversion so they slowly slip out of time, the BDs don't.

Um...shouldn't that be an ostrich...

...instead of an emu?

Justin101 23rd October 2021 07:15 AM

I wouldn't know my head is currently obscured by the sand haha

Demdike@Cult Labs 1st November 2021 11:00 PM

Not an actual bargain as such but i take it you've all had your Amazon email about £5 off when you spend £15 on Amazon sold items?

I bought four from their 2 for £13 Blu-ray offer this evening for £21.
