One of the most iconic and celebrated TV shows of all time, The Twilight Zone is coming to DVD and, for the first time ever in the UK, to Blu-ray. Over the course of 2011, Shock Entertainment and FremantleMedia Enterprises will be releasing all five complete seasons of the series (originally broadcast between 1959 and 1964) plus the complete 1980s revival series.

Over the years, The Twilight Zone has been acknowledged as an influence by countless writers and filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg (“I was a complete obsessive-compulsive Twilight Zone follower.”), J.J. Abrams (“The Twilight Zone at its best is better than anything else I've ever seen on television.”), Joe Dante, John Landis, Wes Craven, George Miller, Clive Barker, Steven King and Michael J. Straczynski.

The year of The Twilight Zone begins on 2nd May with the release of u, featuring all 36 original episodes and a spectacular line up of additional features.

For all releases, every effort has been made to maintain the highest standards of quality in bringing this classic series to DVD and Blu-ray.

The DVD has been digitally remastered and comes packed with extras including audio commentaries, vintage recollections from cast members, Rod Serling’s Network Pitch and original unaired pilots.

Presented for the first time in the UK, the Blu-ray edition is in pristine high-definition, digitally remastered from new 1080p film transfers using the original camera negatives and magnetic soundtracks. As well as all the features on the DVDeditions, the Blu-ray editions will also include a host of extras, available for the first time in the UK. Season 1 alone includes an unofficial pilot written by Rod Serling, 19 new audio commentaries, 18 radio dramas, 34 isolated music scores, and much more.

The Twilight Zone: Season Two will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on 23rd May, Season Three on 27th June, Season Four on 8th August and Season Five early 2012.

Created by the legendary Rod Serling, the multi-Emmy award-winning The Twilight Zone is a true landmark show in television history. It made an indelible mark on popular culture and remains, to this day, one of the most innovative and influential series of all time. The original series ran for 156 episodes between 1959 and 1964, spawning a revival series (1985-1989), a Steven Spielberg-produced feature film (1983), a TV movie (1994) and a final TV series (2002-2003). Sophisticated and entertaining, much of the show’s success was due to the timeless nature and universal appeal of its stories. Its writers included leading sci-fi and fantasy genre writers Richard Matheson, Ray Bradbury, Charles Beaumont and Serling, himself.

The series also helped launch the careers of many soon-to-be famous stars, including Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Robert Duvall, Peter Falk, Dennis Hopper, Ron Howard, Lee Marvin, Vera Miles, Elizabeth Montgomery, Agnes Moorehead, Leonard Nimoy, Donald Pleasence, Robert Redford, William Shatner and Natalie Trundy, as well as providing a platform for established acting greats such as Buster Keaton, Burgess Meredith and Mickey Rooney.

An essential viewing experience for fans of sci-fi, fantasy and groundbreaking TV drama, these newly remastered editions of The Twilight Zone present Rod Serling’s television masterpiece as never seen before.

Or something like that - they dont have to be Xmas specific.

Pictures are always more than welcome!

Enter as many times as you like!

The three greatest entries will be picked in two weeks time (the 19th) and each winner will get themselves alll 4 boxsets (either on DVD or Blu-Ray) :woot: :woot:

GOOD LUCK!

Meet Peter David Smith of Dayton Falls, Nevada.

Every December 1st his parents give him an Advent Calendar. Usually behind each shuttered cardboard window there is nothing more than a small piece of crafted Christmas candy. This year will be different.

For this year Peter David Smith is about to discover not all windows should be opened, and not all Advent Calendar windows lead to smiles and candy.

Sometimes they can lead into... The Twilight Zone!

As soon as Peter opens the window for December 1st there is a whoosh of wind, and he is pulled into the calendar, finding himself drawn into a Christmas scene from mid-50s America. There is a murdered body on the floor, police are snapping pics. A serial killer is at large. "The Christmas Killer". He leaves the victim with a bow wrapped round their neck..

Suddenly Peter is back in the present.

Over the course of the next 3 weeks Peter is transported to other Christmas scenes from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Each time there is a victim, each time it is the work of "The Christmas Killer".

Peter begins to realise that there is a reason for this "gift" - he has to find the killer before he strikes again, now, here in the "present", on December 24th.

His stays in the past last longer, and he begins to piece the clues together, until eventually he discovers who the killer is...

On December 24th, when Peter opens the final window on his Advent Calendar, he knows he will face "The Christmas Killer", the man who gave him the calendar in the first place, his own father.

Peter David Smith, of Dayton Falls, Nevada. Given the gift to save lives. But at a sacrifice. A sacrifice he chose to make, for no one can resist the allure of an Advent Calendar window. Not even when it leads into... The Twilight Zone.

Twilight Zone Christmas Special:

The Kiss of Death

Christmas in 2011 is just like any other Christmas for most people but not for Ant, not this year.

Ant always finds an excuse to kiss the girls all year round but he gets most of them at Christmas time, with the inevitable unvealing of his Mystery Mistletoe. Once he starts waving his magical berries around, the ladies (and men) just cannot resist.

After a having a bad year with nothing much going right for him, from Car trouble to Flat trouble and everything in between, Ant had some very dark thoughts on his mind. He gradually got more and more bitter toward the world around him. This negative mindset had somehow triggered an evil force in his leaf and two berries and whoever kissed him this Christmas would die a slow, painful death.

After losing the one he loved the most, his gorgeous partner Kelly, Ant was sent plunging even deeper into his resentful thoughts.
At first he was traumatised by what had happened but he decided to utilise it to his personal advantage. He conjured up a list of people he'd like to act some veangance on for any of their wrongdoing they had once bestowed upon the hapless man throughout his life. From car manufacturers to insurance brokers, Ant tracked them all down for their inevitable Christmas kiss under the mistletoe that would also become the final kiss of their lives.

The Mittens

On a cold Christmas morning, little Suzy rushed out of her warm bed and into the living room where the Christmas tree was standing. Out of breath and filled with excitement she looked over to her mom and dad sitting by the fireplace. "Well, what are you waiting for?" They said to her. On that cue she began to ravage the presents that sat underneath the tree. Each gift revealed everything that you could expect a young girl to get, dolls...make up...baking set.

As she becomes preoccupied with the things she has gotten, her father has to tell her that she still has overlooked one more gift under the Christmas tree that "Mommy must have put under the tree while Daddy wasn't looking." Suzy's mother looks at him and shakes her head "I thought you put that under the tree?" Suzy can no longer contain her excitement and rips the package apart in a frenzy. She takes the wrapping paper away to find a pair of light blue mittens. She lets out a sigh of disappointment as her mother and father look on.

Later that day Suzy is getting ready to go out and play in the snow. Her mother slips the fuzzy mittens over her hands. "Don't go get into too much trouble and be back in an hour. Suzy bolts out the door before her mother can even finish.

Shortly thereafter, Suzy begins throwing a ball with the other kids in the neighborhood. When one of them throws it too far and it goes into the woods Suzy yells, "I'll get it!" She disappears into the wooded area to find the ball. When Suzy does not return, one of the kids screams, "Suzy!" There is no reply. "She must be lost, I'll go try to find her." Johnny says. Johnny treks up the snow covered hill and dissolves into the same wooded area as Suzy. Seconds later we hear Johnny bellow out a wailing screech. The rest of the kids get scared and disperse into their homes.

One by one, each of the neighborhood kids begin to perish. Could this be the work of an innocent child and her pair of mysterious mittens? Or is something more ominous at work here? Find out if little Suzy can lead you into, THE TWILIGHT ZONE!

A Christmas which is received a man who I will call Bob. The problem for Bob is that the card is from a friend who died a few days ago. Bob thought this was a sick joke, but didn't let it bother him as he was a harsh and uncaring man who hated Christmas.
The next day he received another card from his mother. He never usually got a card from his mother as he was a horrible son, so he called to see why he got one this year. Bob found out that his mother had been killed that morning in a car crash.
The next day he received a card from his sister. She too had been killed. Each day he received cards from family members and friends. Until on Christmas Eve; there was no one left that he cared about.
On Christmas day when Bob was feeling at his lowest and wishing he had been kinder to his loved ones; the letter box went. There was another card. Upon opening the card Bob discovered that this card was from himself. In as state of shock, panic and a severe case of depression. Bob started to hang himself. As he was read to step off the wobbly chair. he heard voices outside his house. The people he heard opened the door an entered. As the living room door opened Bob's family appeared saying Merry Christmas. In his excitement and relief that his family was still alive, Bob reached out for them and the chair fell hanging Bob in front of his whole family.

Episode – Ol’ St. Nick

Starring – Alec Baldwin

George Welles loves Christmas. The boss of a successful advertising company, Christmas has been very good to him. The company makes millions of dollars a year creating Christmas campaigns for all the big brands. The companies come back every year because of George’s relentless enthusiasm for the festive season, which in turn drives unbelievable results.

Part of his passion comes from the fact that every year, George dresses up as Father Christmas and delivers presents to Amberson County Orphanage, where George was raised as a young boy. It was here that George’s life was set in motion. It was here that George met Father Christmas.

He tells the story to all his clients; one Christmas Eve, when George was 8 years old, he heard a rustling in the main communal room of the orphanage and snuck downstairs to have a look. Peeking into the room, he spotted Santa putting presents under the tree. After making a noise in shock, Santa turned round and spoke to him, gave him a small wooden horse and then sent him off to bed. It was only 5 minutes, but it was enough to change his life. He carries this wooden horse everywhere with him, the company logo is a horse, it’s his lucky charm.

George leaves the office in his Santa suit, gets in his car and starts making the 200 mile trip back to Amberson County. The weather is terrible, snow drifts everywhere, fierce winds, but George won’t stop or turn around, he won’t let those kids down. Just outside the grounds, his car hits a solid mound of snow and he careens off the road into a tree.

He awakens later, unsure of how much time has passed. Feeling dazed, but generally OK, he decides to walk to the orphanage, drop off the gifts to the kids and call the insurance when they’ve all gone to bed. He checks his phone, but it is smashed beyond repair. He gathers up his sack of presents, and starts the short walk.

It’s all quiet when he gets there, and no-one answers the door. Figuring it’s later than he realised, George goes round the back to the kitchen entrance and lets himself in. He’s not worried about scaring the staff, because he comes here at least once a month, so they all know him. The familiar Christmas smells hit him when gets inside, instantly taking him back to his childhood and that magical night. Realising that nobody is around, he guesses that it’s really late and the staff must be in bed. He tries the phone, but all he gets is a crackle, so the bad weather must’ve knocked out the phone lines. He decides to drop the presents under the tree, and then take a walk into town to find a hotel for the night.

He notices that the main room looks a lot more classic this year, it’s been remodelled to the way it used to look before he started donating his money. Thinking this is pretty strange, he notices the tree, with all its handmade decorations and shiny baubles. It’s a beautiful thing, and he forgets all about the room, mesmerised. As he’s dropping off the presents, he hears a rustling behind him and turns round. There’s a young boy stood there, hair messed up and wild eyed, fresh from bed. Not wanting to scare the boy, George puts on his best Santa voice and speaks to the little boy for a while, sending him back off to bed. Remembering his youth, he takes the little horse out of his pocket and gives it to the boy. After the boy has gone back upstairs, George find himself feeling a little dazed, and sits on the sofa, drifting off to sleep.

He awakens to the terrible sound of banging and car horns blaring, after rubbing his eyes, he realises he’s in his car, off the road and crashed. There are people banging on the windows, asking him if he’s OK. George looks in the back and sees that the sack of presents is gone. Checking his pocket, he notices the horse is gone too.

“Incident on a Christmas night. A man named Welles realises that adage that many people have realised before – “There is no fate but what we make”. A chance meeting with his younger self set in motion events that would shape the life of hundreds of people. A chance encounter-- in the Twilight Zone”

Nightmare at 20000 Part 2

A handsome successful Star Wars geek for sake of argument we'll call him darthelvis is relaxing on the return flight from Scatsta to Aberdeen (chance would be a fine thing!) after a tiring trip offshore. Hurricane Bawbag has been causing havoc in his homeland of Scotland and this had prevented him getting home to see his family for the weekend.

Flight EZE1138 takes off and as darth sucks on a boiled sweet to stop his ears from popping, pops on an episode of Diff'rent Strokes on his iphone, slips off his shoes & chills out. When the stewardess comes round with tea & coffee & shortbread (yes this is Scotland after all), darth opts for a cup of tea and turns his attention to the wing of the plane just outside his tiny window.

To his horror and disgust he sees William Shatner fully dressed in his Captain Kirk outfit outside on the wing of the plane burning the last surviving copy of the untampered with Star Wars trilogy laughing before bursting into a rendition of Birdhouse in your Soul by the great They Might be Giants! I scream in agony, a coldsweat covers my body as I look for someone else on the flight to look out the window to see this evil 80 year old man taunting me!

Why god why am I not allowed to take sharp objects or guns on my flights! With my shortbread in hand I walk calmly to the emergency exit, I lift the arm release to the door and like Keanu Reeves in Point Break I leap out the door of the plan soaring towards the wing!

I just manage to catch Shatner with a stretched out arm, getting him right in the gut (kind of hard to miss these days!). We both fall from the plane through the sky at a speed faster than Luke made the Kessel Run! Fighting tooth & nail, I unwrap my shortbread and force both golden sweet sticks into Shatners mouth, choking him to death. I stand a top Shatners fallen body and float it to the ground like a giant surfboard!

Hitting the ground, Shatner takes the brunt of the impact leaving darthelvis uninjured! I notice something in Shatners hand......a small piece of film. I break the fingers on his hand to release the film and upon inspection it is a piece from the original Star Wars. A film cell depicting Han & Gredo in the Cantina and guess what Han shoots First!!!!!

Life is sweet!!!!!

Disclaimer: I really have nothing against William Shatner or Star Trek and mean no harm to the man really. Nor do I believe sharp objects & guns should be taken onboard flights, it's all in the interest if story telling!

Crackers at Christmas

Andy Turpin never leaves anything to chance. A man obsessed with order, routine and tidiness, everything he does is precision-planned. On Christmas Eve his wife returns home to their 2nd floor flat after a day of shopping with a battered box of Christmas crackers she bought from a homeless-looking man in the street. Andy is annoyed by this as every year he buys the expensive Platinum Cracker Set from from his local supermarket but as his wife did this to be seasonal and charitable he lets this slide, against all character.

On Christmas Day he pulls the cracker with his wife and gets the bigger half. Out falls a party hat, a cheap-looking toy car and a slip of paper with a joke on. Getting into the spirit Andy puts his hat on and reads out the joke:

Q) What has 10 toes, 9 fingers and will be dead by the end of the week?
A) Andy Turpin

Andy screams, throws the toy car against the window and shouts at his wife: "Is this a joke?!". His wife doesn't understand how this has happened. Andy, becomes increasingly obsessed with his fate as predicted by the cracker. On Boxing Day while distracted by the thought of the cracker's premonition he cuts his finger off while making a turkey sandwich. He arrives at the hospital too late for them to reattach it.

"This isn't right! This can't be how it's planned!" Andy says when he gets back from the hospital. Frantic, he runs around his flat thinking of ways to overcome the grand plan that seems destined for him. "Please let me beat this!" he screams "I'll be more spontaneous in future, I don't want things to be pre-destined and ordered anymore!". He hears a noise below the 2nd floor window. Worried that this is a sign that his time is up he runs madly to the window, not seeing the toy car from the cracker still on the floor. He steps on the car, slips and goes flying through the window, landing on the ground below with a splattering 'thud'.

Andy Turpin, a man whose obsession with destiny became his downfall. A man who didn't realise that life was what happens when you're busy making other plans. A man whose distraction by a simple Christmas cracker lead to his unfortunate demise, in The Twilight Zone

Tinsel that was produced in a factory build on an Indian burial ground acquires sentience and terrorises an All-American family. It strangles the mother, ties itself across the top of the stairs and trips over the father and jumps down the throat of Randy, their 16 year old son, suffocating him in the process.

A simple Christmas decoration, filled with memories on how its Indian forefathers were abused and taken advantage of, wreaks havoc on a simple family. A family who paid for the destructive ways of their ancestors. A family who only wanted, but could never have, a simple Christmas, in The Twilight Zone

Sock it To Me

Another Christmas morning, another stack of unwanted socks for young Billy Jameson, at 8 years old the youngest and most spoilt and attention-seeking of the Jameson family.

"Mom, do I have to wear these? They have Reindeer on them - they're stupid!"
"Yes Billy, put them on and don't be ungrateful. Nana Jameson went to a lot of trouble to knit them for you"
"But mom!"
"Do as I say for just once Billy. You take up so much of my time with your constant demands and your selfish ways. You're forever spoiling Christmas by being ungrateful and demanding. For once, just once, do as I say"

Billy puts on the socks and as he does so, a strange surge courses through his body. He can't see his hands in front of him! Or his feet! Or any of his body! "What the..?" Billy exclaims but he can't even hear this. He walks to the mirror but no-one is there. He's invisible! He screams but no sound comes out. His mother walks in.
"Mom! Mom" he shouts, waving his hands in front of her. But she cannot see him. 'It's the socks!' Billy cries, but no words come out 'They must have turned me invisible!"
He tries to take them off but he can't feel anything - there's nothing there and he can't grasp onto his feet - what should be his hands just pass through what should be his feet. "No!" he cries but again, no words come out.

There's a knock at the door. It's Nana Jameson, who walks in and greets Billy's parent's. "She'l be able to help me!" Billy thinks.
"Having a nice Christmas?" she asks Billy's mother at the door
"Perfect" replies Billy's mother.
"How were Billy's socks?" Nana Jameson asks "Did they fit him?"
"Oh they fit him alright" his mother replies. "They were absolutely perfect for him."
"Oh, I'm so glad" Nana Jameson says
"Yes," Billy's mother replies, "just what he needed"

Billy Jameson, a young boy, but one who should know better. A boy who took up everyone's time with his selfish and spoilt demands. A boy who faded into obscurity at his family's request, in The Twilight Zone

Jeeez! This was one tough comp to judge! But I think I managed to work it out...just about!

So, the winners are...

:first: Baseball Fury's Ol' Saint Nick - probably the most Twilight-Zone-y idea of the whole competition

:second: PaulD's Crackers At Christmas & Sock It To Me - Two very cool stories that I could imagine seeing among the best of the 60s show. I couldn't pick a favourite out of these two, so I stuck them together

:third: Bigandy's Killer Advent Calender story - great way to kick start the comp with a rather interesting moral too it - curiosity killed the cat.

Well done, you three have just won yourselves Twilight Zone Volumes 1-4! Let me know whether you'd like the DVDs or Blu-Rays!
