Received a mail from French dvd company Le Chat qui Fume that all their blaxploitation dvd's have optional French subs.

- Darktown Strutters (1975)
- The Final Comedown (1972)
- The Black Godfather (1974)
- Black Samurai (1977)
- The Klansman (1974)

Does anyone own the UK DVD of SUGAR HILL and, if so, is the quality any good?

Oddly even though I've wanted to see this for years I've never actually bothered looking for it. I keep thinking that it will never live up to some of the spooky looking stills I've seen and might spoil those images if I watch it.

Possibly a boot? (Edit: the UK dvd is legit it seems)
Has good pic quality but the film is presented fullscreen if I remember correctly.
The old US Blax dvd is definitely a boot btw.
The new MGM mod dvd will be widescreen.

It was released by ILC, who had an agreement with MGM to release certain titles. They also released: EMPIRE OF THE ANTS, GALAXY OF TERROR, MOTEL HELL, THE VAMPIRE LOVERS and a few more which I can't remember at the moment.

Ah,so the UK dvd wasn't a boot then.

Btw just found this review (with caps) of the UK dvd:
http://cinebeats.blogsome.com/2007/1...gar-hill-1974/

The pic quality looks ok-ish but not great judging from the caps.

New Lines Platinum Region 1 edition of Max Julien's The Mack is about as good as it's going to look. Good commentary track too. Don't know if it's OOP but probably cheap eBay / Amazon. Richard Pryor must have been a nightmare to work with!

Once he got into crystal meth/crack he would have been grim to be around no doubt, but in the 70s probably just a coke fiend, so just a bit jangley and babbling a lot, but yeah, must have driven directors mad.
