Even though it's played straight, Harry Brown starring Michael Caine fits this criteria really well (well ok, without the down-and-out bit I guess).

I must admit when i was typing my previous post the above 'Michael Caine-does-Death Wish' effort was on my mind despite yours truly not having seen HB yet. But i intend to sooner rather than later.

Here's hoping HWAS gives 'ol Rotgut Hauer's career a revitalising shot-in-the-arm as he's been off the cinematic radar for too long imo. I was most pleased to see the former Guinness guru in Batman Begins.

Definitely the best movie of the year and in the top 10 films from the past decade.

As easily as I noticed it I completely ignored it within the first 30 minutes of the film. Good flick 3.5/5

I think the oversaturation was done on purpose to give it a visceral feeling - worked for me.

Personally, I like over played, candy colour schemes in movies. All my favourite Japanese movies are like rainbow vomit for the eyes, all my favourite horror films are unrealistic and garish and I watch movies for escapism so give me Wizard of Oz technicolor every time.
