Not Quite Hollywood (2008)

It's full title is Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation! and let me tell you, if you want to know about this period of Australian film history (from about 1972 to the mid 80s) this is the best place to start.

It's directed by Mark Hartley, who also did Machete Maidens Unleashed, and is pretty informative.

Actually, here is a review I did: Not Quite Hollywood DVD Review | Digital Retribution

Fantastic documentary and highly recommended by me too. This really opened my eyes to a whole load of films that had completely slipped under my radar. A great starting point indeed.

I'm looking forward to the Machete Maidens documentary from the same team, though I heard a few people saying it isn't a patch on Not Quite Hollywood . . .

Machete Maidens is already out in Australia, watched mine already. ;)
It's a fun docu for new fans imho, mainly concentrating on US co-productions.
The Aussie release also has The Muthers (disc 2) as an extra.

Absolutely fantastic documentary.
Up there with Hearts Of Darkness IMO.

Student documentary makers take note!

As all above have said, and if the name "Abigail" means nothing, start here. I'll have to post some pics of her on the stills thread, unsung cult heroine.

This documentary is so inspiring! A one hell of a ride through action, violence, sex and kangoroos!

it is a really entertaining documentary, I especially like the way almost everyone has very fond memories of the films thet worked on.

It is a fantastic documentary about an extremely interesting period and the best release appears to be the 2 disc one from Australia if you can get hold of a copy.

Really dug this documentary. Worth it just to discover the amazing Road Games!
