You'll need to keep your eye on EBay, Kyle. There are always a few gems (tapes on betamax) on there.

There sure are buddy. Although there's also quite a few going for silly money - people trying their luck!

Do you collect betamax tapes too, Mr or just come across them when browsing eBay? Ever had one back in the day?

The first video we ever had was a Beta. It wasn't actually called Betamax at that time.

We rented loads from a small but decent shop called Oscars in Nelson, Lancs. They are still going but i don't know if they still do rentals anymore. Back then it was their main concern. Pretty sure it's a beauty salon now.

I remember well the first three tapes rented on Beta. The Wild Geese, Treasure of the Four Crowns* and Scanners.

The first and i think only Beta tapes we bought were Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Crash. I think i might still have Star Crash somewhere. Raiders was a whopping £25 from WH Smith in Preston.

*It was obvious i'd love Italian trash, er', i mean Italian classics in later life wasn't it? I was schooled in them at an early age.

I've still got a Sony C9 and a few betas stashed away in my parents loft. Nothing too exciting I'm afraid. You are right about people chancing their arm on EBay, but if you keep looking you'll soon be able to build up a collection for not a great amount. Good luck on the hunt.

'Animal Farm' did the rounds when we were at secondary school.
Thankfully I never had the (dogs) balls to take a (goosey) gander!

I'd be careful of what else this perv has sold you Kyle.

This prick will be chapping your door shortly mate......

The main reason you still find old-school early 80s porn tapes is ironically the VRA which outlawed all XXX on tape in 1984, all of a sudden these pervy tapes became rare so I guess people just shoved em in the cupboard instead of on the shelf even in 2004 when I worked at Oxfam we would get bags of household bits handed in including loads of old porn tapes, too many copies of Deep Throat to count in fact you could tell by the dust and musty odor they been there a while, (compared to porn I found very few pre-cert tapes over the course of 9 years)

Do you still watch tapes on it, Gerry? Picked up any new tapes for it lately?
