Now we're talking, for everyday TV off-air recording TDK TV 180/240 (which I could get cheap, 10 for £5) but for music it had to be TDK HG or HGE (those I could get 10 for £10) even better was you could record spoken word/drama at LP so whole series of Radio 4 stuff like Hitch-Hikers Guide or Sherlock Holmes could easily fit on 1 tape, Damn, you've got me all nostalgic now

I used to have TDK EHG tapes, these were better HG tapes than their budget class HS. my uncut bootlegg movies I used to tape them on EHG tapes to preserve them for many years. for LP mode recording or audio HIFI recordings on VHS tapes, had to use minimum TDK EHG tapes for HQ recordings. last year I bought new blank tapes for my S-VHS players. these were Fuji PRO, JVC XG and their lesser budget class S-VHS tapes JVC SV series. maybe I have 15x or 20x blank tapes for future recordings from tv. would be great to own a Digtal VHS player from JVC the HM-DR10000 series. This was their last HQ machine unfortunatelly it did not have the same cool gadgets like 80-90's S-VHS players. Final players looked very plasticky and cheap to my likings! This player is not cheap to buy! https://www.ebay.de/itm/JVC-HM-DR100...EAAOSwoydWjuP3 |

very cool commercials. fun to watch. tv commercials were so much better back then than what I see on tv nowadays. |

Its a shame there on the way out. though I suppose in the wake of DVD/Bluray/Streaming it's inevitable really that VHS would slowly fall into a Niche market of enthusiasts and collectors. I like the feel tape gives to movies. the softness, the fuzz. It really enhances the viewing experience for me though one of the downsides is that inevitably barring a resurgence we may well see the full death of VHS within our lifetimes as they slowly lose there signal over time...still! thats a good good way off and in the mean time im happy juddering along with my 3 machines whirring on a regular basis

few days ago I picked up my tuned up S-VHS player from the repair shop. I had rubber pinchroller, new drive belt and mode switch replaced. audio and video heads cleaned. tape path cleaned and lubricated. tape elevator mechanism cleaned and lubricated. it's getting harder and harder finding parts for these S-VHS suckaz!! I currently own 3x JVC S-VHS players. all in perfect tuned up working condition! getting them tuned up doesn't come cheap I can assure you that! nowadays there are not many shops competent in repairing an VHS player! I will stack up with new studio recorded purchase tapes of Hollywood blockbuster movies. recently bought brand new factory sealed VHS tapes of Top Gun and Terminator III. I haven't watched these movies yet. the analog stereo sound is going to be so awesoooooooooome played through my Naim HiFi! it's like body hair getting hard on when I hear the analog stereo audio through my Naim! |

There a site called pre cert some will have heard of it I know couple members are in here and there, basically its for fans who still collect vhs \ betamax etc and the rare hard to find films. Be surprised how much some of these films exchange hands for, eg Jekyll and Hyde portfolio sold recently on there by one of its members to another member for just slightly over a grand. But I got to admit tho if you like your horrors with the grubby and dirty feel to them I think if you clean the film up to much for blu ray \4k that it can take the edge of the film of its dirty and grubbiness |

i also have a JVC SVHS but it eats up any tapes you put in it. and i still have several boxes of vhs films that my dad used to buy for me off video shops. managed to get a lot of horror films that they wanted to get rid off because of banning.

There was an item on this morning's BBC Breakfast, showing that a Liverpudlian had opened a new VHS rental shop! Good on him. Can't find a clip anywhere....
