We had:

GLOBAL

and every newspaper and corner shop and cafe had videos as well!

and later the TV rental shops all vanished and Blockbuster bought Videovaults premises and put all the other indies out the game.
I used to like Global. We didn't get any round here until the arse end of the rental days but i picked up quite a few big box ex-rentals from them for good prices.

That brings back cherished memories of my local video guy. He lent me an uncut version of The Toxic Avenger (it was banned at the time). It was like holding the Holy Grail. I had never seen anything close to that level of violence before so it blew my away.

First vhs I actually bought brand new was Jimi Plays Berkerly (still have it)
First two I ever hired were The Evil Dead and a live Sabbath tape from 76.
First ex rental I ever bought was either a Python tape or Suburbia (Penelope Spheeris), second was Inferno
First vhs I ever saw at someone else's house was How Sleep The Brave
First vhs featuring naked fun was Inside Seka
First vhs I ever ordered by mail was Flipside No 6 (from Rough Trade?..still have this as well!)

And the last I bought new was Audition
The first rental that made my young mind realize that Hammer was not the strongest horror out there was City of the Living Dead on Inter light and the first adult titles were Inside Desiree Cousteau and American Pie (No, not that one!).

Does anyone here still have any old vhs catalogues? I think I've got a VTC "collectables" and one or two Warner pamphlets up in my old dear's loft. I'll have a look for them when I'm there at the weekend.

Presumably that was the 'Never Say Die' release, recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon in June 1978, although the VHS release wasn't until some 8 years later in 1986

The set list for the VHS was:

Symptom of the Universe
War Pigs
Snowblind
Never Say Die
Black Sabbath
Dirty Women
Rock 'n' Roll Doctor
Electric Funeral
Children of the Grave
Paranoid

It was the last tour to feature Ozzy, before he was fired from the band (for the first time), and the support band was Van Halen which led to one of the all-time great Rock and Roll quotes from David Lee Roth when he proclaimed Lewisham to be the 'Rock and Roll centre of the universe'!
