US Sexploitation Gallery

Hi everyone,

With only a few more days left until Viva is released on DVD (have you pre-ordered yours yet from Amazon?), what better time to delve deep (and hard) into the world of those naughty sexploitation films from America during the 60s and 70s.

Viva is an excellent throwback to these days of sexploitation classics from Russ Meyer, Herschell Gordon Lewis and the like. With it's excellent set, hammed up acting, camp costumes and bountiful boobs, it's a must for fans of these films.

So, what are your favourite sexploitation movies from the good ol' USA during the 60s/70s? Let us know and post up some of your favourite stills below...

In another universe, Michael and Roberta Findlay are my parents. I can't begin tell you how much I love their work. Here are some random images I collected before collapsing...

Make Them Die Slowly 12th November 2013 09:09 PM

The thing I really like about the Findlay's work is Michael's crazed love hate relationship to women and sex. In the first FLESH film there is a 15 minute montage of strippers thrusting their groins and beehive hair all over the show as a voice over spews forth misogynistic madness. It is f*cking amazing in a truly mad way that excites and revolts at the same time, a feeling that I like.

I am sure most people will be bored senseless by these dated oddities but for me there is a dark, twisted and very personal vision being spat upon the screen that, for good or bad, is lost in a lot of sexploitation films that bump and grind to the cash register...

Here's a bunch of old review of some other sex weirdness...

Fiona Horsey made a handful of great UK sexploiters before she moved to Latin America to become a soap and pop star. Here's a brief selection of her stuff under various titles.

I have those three films.

I saw Twisted Sisters first then The Chambermaid followed by Penetration Angst.

Absolutely brilliant. - Scuzzy, cheap little films with plots that veer all over the place, complete with dirty unflinching sex and madder than a hatter violence.

Anyone who ever says " Yeah i saw those, they bored me, always knew what was coming". is a ****ing liar..... or Fiona Horsey.

They are really great and deserve to have a bigger fan base than you and me. Then again, I have noticed that Cult Labbers seem to shy away whenever sex films appear in topics. I've never quite been able to figure out why.

I know Frankie likes the Horsey films as well.

I also know what you mean. There's plenty of sexual content in the world of cult films, be it in Gialli or horror. I practically grew up with Uncles Jess and Jean, so its always been part of my catalogue, and much of the time the best part of it.

Quite often i've seen it raised that films don't need the sex as long as they keep the violence which to me takes most of the exploitation away from the genre.

It's all very British. I remember years ago people writing in to complain about the amount of nudity in THE DARKSIDE magazine then gushing over pictures of women hacked up. What a weird nation we are to be afraid of sex.

Fangoria won't allow any nudity but its fine to show blood drenched cadavers on every page.

Well, I'll be buggered!

If you go out with a roman candle up your bum you certainly will be!

I'm also an admirer of Ms. Horsey and have seen those films too. Penetration Angst is probably my favourite.

As for the Findlay's, I haven't seen any of their work outside of their infamous 'Flesh' Trilogy, but really like what I saw... enough to buy all three anyway.

Hmm I don't think I've seen any of the Findlay sexploitation movies ! I need to change that soon.

I do love a bit of Russ Meyer though, especially SuperVixen! They're just so much fun - I was lucky enough to see a bunch of his films back to back in London a few years ago, before they showed the new film, Bitch Slap - great stuff!

What did you make of Bitch Slap Kyle?

I liked it, although i do feel it could have gone a lot further with the titillation. It wasn't really up to Meyer's standards

I'm on the same page as you too, Dem. It was a lot of fun, but not quite as silly as the films it was trying to send up. It's still good fun! I can't remember too much from it mind, besides lots of slow motion women covered in water...

I really didn't like "Bitch Slap", way too tame. I did like this, which is also pretty tame but pays it's dues to Russ and H.P. Lovecraft!

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 14th November 2013 12:18 AM

I didn't care for Bitch Slap either. Too much gloss and not enough dirt for my liking.
