It can get slightly annoying that spaghetti western has become synonymous with the dollars trilogy. People sometimes claim to like spaghetti westerns when further inquiry reveals they mean ''the Clint Eastwood movies''. A good next step would be watching the Sergio Corbucci westerns. They are as good and sometimes better than the Leone ones.

I think the simple fact is that the majority of us outside Italy were introduced to spaghetti westerns via the Dollars trilogy, so for those who chose to delve no further they will feel they like the genre when it comes up in conversation.

Those who post on forums such as this will probably have seen more examples of the genre beginning with the likes of Django, Sabata and Once Upon a Time in the West and then seeing where the trail takes them.

Personally i haven't seen a spaghetti western that comes even close to Leoni's films. Django remains a highlight in onscreen bloodshed and i love The Fighting Fists of Shanghai Joe but the Leoni films are still the genre's best.

Not that i claim to be any sort of expert. I'd never claim Italian westerns were my field at all.

The Great Silence and The Big Gundown are amazing.

I wonder if this will hit UK screens?

Should make for a terrific disc re-release sometime soon either way.

i can take or leave westerns. but the dollars one's are fabulous with style and good music in the italian style. and also Clint eastwood is the greatest action star of all time.
