Yeah not sure what the hell the Duke was thinking starring in either film. Guess he was hurting for money those days lol. Agreed though Rooster Cogburn is awful.

True Grit seems to get a lot of flak. Bizarre when its about 453.6 times better than the bloody Searchers.

Ambivalent as I am about The Duke .... I have grown to respect his place in history. Eldorado being a personal favourite.

So I rewatched Eldorado (1966, Howard Hawks) The Wayne astride his steed like the missing heid fae Mount Rushmore on a hoss, saunters in and out of a 'range war' whilst retaining a moral compass that ran true north every time and was probably a contributing factor in his demise .... I digress. Would love to hear a historian commentary on this above even Red River ahem. Caan has a whiff of the method about him and can't see that sitting well with Duke at all And consarnit it's more violent than you remember for a PG Film! Still hate the song though

I The Searchers. Like Vertigo it had a sickness in it's very soul. Wayne is Death personified..... well as much as the morality at the time could stand Like draping something velvet over a corpse I digress. Bergman with chaps. Recommended.
