Vipco also released NIGHTKILL which starred Robert Mitchum. One of my all time favourite films. Was rated 15 but went out with an 18 because of the Cannibal Holocaust trailer. Couldn't see anything 18 about the trailer myself. I think the BBFC were just being silly here. Nightkill by the way barely deserves a 15.

I'm also quite sure the Vipco DVD of The Shogun Assassin is uncut, especially after comparing the cut and uncut versions.

Thanks for that extensive list, Vipco. They did release some very interesting films.

Darkside are wrong. These are the original UK cinema cuts to Shogun Assassin as provided by the BBFC..........

Quote:

Reel 1 - In fight watched by baby in cart, sight of father cleaving man's head in two with sword was reduced to establishing shot only.

Reel 3 - In fight after baby is dropped into well, sight of father cleaving man's head in two with sword was reduced to establishing shot only.
In fight on ship, CUs in which man with claw hand and man with spiked hand pull weapons bloodily across victim's faces and bodies were removed.
These are all intact in the 1999 Vipco release.

The cuts to New York Ripper were to the stomach/nipple razor-slashing. The Shameless release is also cut but the edits are better.

I believe the Vipco Bloody Apes VHS was pulled at the last minute though I dunno why (maybe someone went ape) http://shameless-films.com/forums/im...es/biggrin.gif. The cuts were extremely heavy compared to the current uncut UK Redemption DVD. Not just to the heart surgery but the bedroom rape, eye-gouging, stabbing, park assault and all topless nudity were horrendously badly edited. The 1999 Sovereign VHS featured what was originally to have been the Vipco release print and it was totally worthless. Good job Vipco didn't release it (though their artwork for the projected video was kewl). http://shameless-films.com/forums/im...ilies/cool.gif

Was there ever an R rated version of New York Ripper and House on the Edge of the Park?

vincenzo 15th April 2008 04:35 PM

I've never heard about any. They'd have been thoroughly dissected if there were.

Another feather in Vipco's cap of course is their uncut cinema release of Vault Of Horror. To date this is the only full version of the film, as even the recent U.S TCF DVD (paired with Tales From The Crypt) features the edited U.S TV version with the cuts and the 2 freeze-frame endings.

I used to have the old Apex video which had nearly a quarter of an hour cut out.

I do like the film because it's so bizarre and one of those films to watch on a Saturday night when there's nothing else to watch. The boy/bloke/whatsit is so creepy but you cannot take your eyes off him. Is he a man playing a boy or a ventriloquist's dummy?!

I also saw a cut version ages ago so was really pleased when I realised I had an uncut version.

People should seek this weird little gem out.

Nightkill is an excellent film and one that I haven't seen in absolutely ages. I agree that it doesn't deserve a 15 rating (from memory) as I can't remember anything particularly gruesome.

Got rid of this without watching it...............Vipco's artwork had me hook, line and sinker when it came to artwork and warnings and over enthusiastic reviews......Can't say much though,I've got nearly a complete collection of their dvd releases.....purely for nostalgic reasons.......got absolutely slaughtered on the abuk forums......but then who gives a ****?

They cut 17m from I Spit on Your Grave. Surely there couldn't have been anything left of the rape or the revenge.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 15th April 2008 07:16 PM

I bought this before i went multi region Angel,...it could have been aired on ITV's 3pm slot..............
