Anthropophagus And Absurd

I would like to see Anthropophagus The Beast released and Absurd also release here uncut.

Anthropophagus is another personal fave of mine; essentially a psycho/cannibal flick, but has this great fairy-tale/Gothic feel to it, I got an Italian Beat DVD on ebay.

Both are owned by MGM. Or what's left of MGM.

Stephen@Cult Labs 11th October 2010 09:17 PM

MGM seems to own quite a lot of films that it looks like it has no intentions of ever releasing, even before their financial troubles started. The Vagrant, Trancers, The Video Dead. Along with Trancers, I think MGM holds the rights to other empire Pictures movies, including
Zone Troopers and Eliminators.

The Video Dead is now streaming via Netflix in the States, which marks its first home appearance in a long while. MGM have done this with a few of their titles. They also recently made Mario Bava's Dr Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs available for streaming only through Hulu and Netflix. Neither have come to DVD here, though, so who knows if that is a good sign or not.

I'd love to see either Shameless or Arrow release Anthropophagus, until it gets an uncut UK release I'll stick with the Shriek Show R1.

I used to own the German astro release of Antrophophagus. It was ok but seemed as if it was occasionally sourced from a vhs, at times there were also German subtitles over the film.

I have only seen a vhs rip of Absurd, which i didn't really think much of.

Vampix 12th October 2010 02:05 PM

The Shriek Show edition looks good but the soundtrack is muffled and quiet, I have to turn my TV volume right up to understand what's being said.

Would certainly be very interesting to see Anthro and Absurd released in the UK uncut. They'd have no trouble getting through intact now either. Real shame if MGM do own the right as I can't see them doing anything with either film and they really are due some care and attention.

Never liked Anthro but loved Absurd . I saw both back to back on those bootleg VHS you got with 2 films for a tenner years ago.
