Exterminator 2

What about EXTERMINATOR 2? OPTIMUM (STUDIO CANAL) own the rights to this one,but CANAL have been known to 'lease' their titles out.(Maybe that's why they bought out optimum) Or would this be too expensive?

Angel 9th January 2008 06:51 AM

Would be great to see the uncut version of this getting a relase here.

Almar@Cult Labs 9th January 2008 04:13 PM

Wasn't it full of rollerskating gangs or something shite like that? I'd love to release all the Cannon films but somewhat unlikely to say the least.

Wilson Bros 20th February 2008 09:27 AM

That's a bit of a bummer, Almar!

Nick would sell his mother (mine, too!) in order to see the most complete copy of Exterminator 2 released in the UK.

OK, so it's pretty shite, but the movie has a fascinating history behind it. I'm sure Nick would happily provide a notes for a subtitle track detailing the sorry history of the production and point out which scenes were from the original shoot and which are from the reshoot! Lol!

K & N

Almar@Cult Labs 20th February 2008 09:45 AM

Hmmm. I doubt we'd get Exterminator 2 but that does raise a point. I quite liked subtitle tracks when they were good but there seemed to be a fad for them that then died away. I'd quite like to do them on Shameless titles as it's potentially affordable (he said cheaply) but do people like them or indeed rate them as a worthwhile extra?

Marc Morris 20th February 2008 02:03 PM

There's zero chance of getting anything out of Studio Canal.

sghawken 25th February 2008 07:16 PM

I'd like to add I would love to see this released, I love this movie (love in a bad way) this would be an amazing release. And even though you say its unlikely i'd like to know your findings if you tried. The bonus of course being that nobody else (on the planet is doing it)

bedorca 27th February 2008 07:36 PM

Its a shame cos Optimum screwed up the screen formatting on the last UK releases of the (cut) Exterminator and Maniac Cop (uncut?). If only Shameless could step in and save the day! Perfect candidates for the yellow sleeve!

Almar@Cult Labs 27th February 2008 07:46 PM

Hey we're more than capable of our own screw-ups! ;)

bedorca 27th February 2008 07:47 PM

Shameless can do no wrong in my eyes :ack:
......sorry ;)

The 2004 Optimum DVD of The Exterminator is fully uncut but fullscreen and devoid of any extras other than promo trailers. The previous DVD release (2000) by Synergy was widescreen (with trailer) but featured a cut print (22 secs from the decapitation and soldering iron torture scenes).

Wish someone would get their finger out with this for a dvd release.....

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 19th July 2008 03:45 PM

Is that artwork or what folks?-They don't design 'em like that anymore!:(

mark meakin 22nd July 2008 10:03 AM

The nearest I saw to an uncut version was the Bravo screening years ago. However the scene where the cop was electocuted on the train lines was still cut.I think all the other footage cut on the Guild video was intact. Not a great film by any means but I'd love an uncut dvd version & the original cover was a cracker.

HunterBFH 22nd July 2008 02:34 PM

Yes I have TWO UK dvd of The Exterminator here, one from Synergy release and one from Optimum release which is, as Vin says there rightly, uncut!

Still haven't seen the uncut version. It WAS lucky I first saw it on video hire way back in mid '80 which was the theatrical cut version and NOT the re-release video with heavily cut version!

I also am SURE the film was the R - rated for that video release!

HunterBFH 22nd July 2008 02:46 PM

Yes as Reaper72 says rightly we need to obtain The Exterminator 2 out now on DVD or Blu-Ray whatever!

BTW..that video cover..aahh yes I remember seeing that in the video shop! but I like the first original film poster! :)

Angel 22nd July 2008 02:58 PM

The video version of The Exterminator classified by the BBFC in the 80's was the one with the additional BBFC cuts (on top of the cinema cuts). I don't think it was the R version. Did the MPAA ever cut the film? I know the BBFC did but never heard of the MPAA cutting it.

Yes the re-release video version was!...NOT the pre-cert video version as that was the one I saw on the rented video!

I'm sure I read that someone mentioned from somehere that there were one or two scenes were cut for US cinema release..I might be wrong...

vipco 22nd July 2008 05:25 PM

The soldering iron scene is still pretty sick today IMO.
I found that scene to be very disturbing,

HunterBFH 22nd July 2008 05:26 PM

Found this - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080707/...read/105627954

So I presume few of them MAY been cut for its US theatrical release and MUST'VE submitted the R -rated version to the BBFC for its UK cinema release?..I don't know http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/c...nfused0024.gif

HunterBFH 22nd July 2008 05:44 PM

What amazes me here!...first on pre-cert video (released from Inter Vision)..same cuts as cinema vesrion (totalling 44 secs), second the first re-release (released from Braveworld) cuts totalling 2mins 54secs (including the previous BBFC cuts) and the second re-release (released from Synergy Video) MORE cuts were added up to 3mins 38sec! WTF!!!

Angel 22nd July 2008 06:06 PM

It was the R rated version that was submitted to the BBFC in 1980. As far as I know the R version was uncut, the cuts listed above appear to be the cuts the BBFC made not the MPAA.

The total cuts for video was 2m 54s. There were never any additional BBFC cuts. It was the distributor in 1991 who cut more footage than was required. These cuts added up to 3m 38s.

HunterBFH 22nd July 2008 06:32 PM

Aahh...thx Angel for clarifying in reagrds of that!..I thou it WAS the BBFC who requested MORE additional cuts for its '91 video release! So it was the pre-cut version that they (Synergy Video dist.) submitted to the BBFC! That did confuse me a bit there!..lol! Really the BBFC should clarify more of that clearly!

HunterBFH 22nd July 2008 07:05 PM

The one u read the IMBb message post which the user owned the video, it was the '85 video release..so you are correct there Angel, that all the cuts that he/she listed WERE made by the BBFC! HOWEVER that user did miss one...the heaviest one!..totalling 2m 30s!

Here it is as I copied from my WD files!

The scene where Eastman (Robert Ginty) fills a dum-dum bullet wth mercury has been heavily cut, almost 2.30 minutes, missing 12 shots

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 22nd July 2008 11:29 PM

I'm sure Optimum currently own the rights...all you guys start emailing them!

The MPAA cut some of the violence including a shot of the american's severed head as it hangs by a bit of skin, and I think the attack on Steve James was reduced along with the soldering sequence. The MPAA also objected to the ending where Ginty survives after being shot.I gather in US prints he was supposed to be killed off (though I'm not sure it was actually altered 100%).I have the AB OOP directors cut (similar I think to the last dvd release here. The big Box Intervision version I saw contained the lengthy scene where Ginty fills his shells with Mercury.Later video versions cut this footage though as far as I know it was in the cinema version. I think Angel saw this on release so she'll know better.

mark meakin 23rd July 2008 01:55 PM

This post on the IMDB mentions cuts made for an 'R' restored to the unrated DC.It does not mention alterations to the climax but I'm sure Glickenhouse mentions in liner notes the MPAA disapproved of the Exterminator evading justice.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080707/...read/105627954
EDIT -Apparently certain countries disapproved of the "happy" ending on release so the climax may have been altered overseas & not in the US after all.

Angel 23rd July 2008 02:23 PM

Yes it was in the cinema version, Mark.

I know the director's cut (now also available in the UK) contains scenes that I had not previously see in the shorter theatrical version but I didn't realise they were MPAA cuts. When this longer DC of the film was eventually submitted to the BBFC they didn't appear to have any problems with these new scenes. In 2000 they cut what they had previously cut before (with some cuts being waived).

Even James Ferman had no problem with Ginty escaping justice, it's very similar to Death Wish.

Angel 23rd July 2008 02:28 PM

Exterminator 2 had some footage removed by the MPAA. We got the R. I think the unrated version is probably lost forever.

mark meakin 23rd July 2008 02:28 PM

I can still vaguely remember at least one paper condemning the film prior to its theatrical release.Pretty tame stuff now but the trailer is still very memorable. Not many film fans will forget where the line "If you're lying,I'll be back !" came from.

Angel 23rd July 2008 02:39 PM

Unfortunately Exterminator 2 did not fair well at the the box office otherwise there might have been a 3rd film.

Yes when you watch these films years later they often look quite tame.

dougal 23rd July 2008 03:09 PM

For anyone who'd not seen these:

and

http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...terminator.jpg

HunterBFH 23rd July 2008 04:55 PM

See..told you Angel..that there WERE couple footage had been cut out by the order of MPAA! :)

HunterBFH 23rd July 2008 05:04 PM

Wow...are these gonna be released by Shameless soon?..If so, when?

I hope they come in widescreen format..NOT fullscreen..I wouldn't mind if they haven't got english subtitles on them!

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 23rd July 2008 05:21 PM

They're just mock-ups mate....would be great though eh?

HunterBFH 23rd July 2008 05:33 PM

Aaahh!...Dougal fooled me there!

Yeah..nice arts thru! http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/happy/happy0054.gif

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 23rd July 2008 05:37 PM

Absolute class again Dougal.....

cloud 3rd August 2008 01:26 PM

I watched Exterminator 2 again the other night for the first time in well over a decade. I used to have the tape but it mysteriously went missing, however I came across an identical release in Help The Aged for 50p .

I forgot how depressing it was, the last shot in particular showing a man who's had his revenge but has ultimately lost everything that matters to him is quite hard hitting. Still other than that it's good cheesy fun and deserves a good uncut release.

I've never seen the original, has the Optimum DVD got a good restored picture?

The quality of the Optimum release looks basically like an average VHS transfer. Full frame and no extras other than promo trailers.

Annoyingly the previous (Synergy) release was widescreen with a trailer but a cut print. At least the Optimum DVD is 100% uncut.

cloud 3rd August 2008 09:57 PM

Wow that is a surprise to hear because in my experience Optimum always put a sweat in on their transfers. I guess that's why it's so cheap to buy then. I reckon I'll be ordering me one regardless, thanks for letting me know.
