Hammer Bits Part 1
I draw the line at the On The Buses movies but aside from that, I'm a sucker for them...Posted 22nd April 2009 at 02:24 PM by Sam@Cult Labs -
Hammer Bits Part 1
Excellent, I absolutely adore Hammer films, they had such a unique way of making films and whether they were good, bad or mediocre they'd always be made with the right intentions in mind and that was to make an entertaining picture.Posted 22nd April 2009 at 02:21 PM by cloud -
Scraping The Cannibal Barrel...
There's lots to tell.
What I find fascinating about Italian exploitation is the journeyman nature of the directors. They just go with the money and make pictures depending on what's in vogue.
Westerns in the 60s and early 70s, Giallo, until the bubble burst and ultra-right wing cop fantasties after Dirty Harry.
What makes the Cannibal films more interesting as a genre is the fact that they have no Hollywood or Mainstream hit to follow on from. Even the Nazi exploitation films had The Damned and The Night Porter to steal from and obviously Kenn Russell's The Devils probably had a lot to do with all those Lesbian Nun films.
The only precursors to the Cannibal movies might be the Mondo cycle, which traded on the same mixture of fascination with primitive ways and staged repulsion as a shock tactic.Posted 22nd April 2009 at 12:46 PM by Sam@Cult Labs -

Scraping The Cannibal Barrel...
Still plenty of scope for a more in depth piece. Link it back to mondo movies, etcPosted 22nd April 2009 at 10:47 AM by Sam@Cult Labs -

Empire of the Ants
I love a good stupid mutant wildlife film. Frogs is a favourite and the parody of 50s radiation paranoia movies, The Giant Spider Invasion, is ridiculous.
They built a massive spider contraption on top of a car then drove it around. Genius!Posted 21st April 2009 at 09:02 PM by Sam@Cult Labs -
Music Things
I'm not one to beg, but this is a blog I'd like some comments on. Just some opinions about the music.
I knock them together using Garageband, a load of weird old records (in the case of the latter) and wobbly trippy downbeat electronic music. Then, I make little interludes myself by laying samples and snatches of oddball dialogue.Posted 21st April 2009 at 05:31 PM by Sam@Cult Labs -
I'm a Cyborg
I think it's frenetic pace and sheer insanity that appeals inn Tetsuo. I love that in the film Electric Dragon 80000 Volts as wellPosted 21st April 2009 at 01:54 PM by Sam@Cult Labs -
I'm a Cyborg
I liked Rubbers Lover but not Tetsuo but then again i wasn't in the best of moods when i watched it.Posted 21st April 2009 at 12:19 PM by Pete -
I'm a Cyborg
Teenage hooker is a great film. I'm a big fan of the Cyberpunk stuff like Rubber's Lover and the Tetsuo films, The 80s gore stuff like Guinea Pig and Evil Dead Trap, but nothing beats the work done in the 60s (Kwaidan, etc) and the 70s exploitation stuff.Posted 21st April 2009 at 12:04 PM by Sam@Cult Labs -
Empire of the Ants
I have never seen this movie but i will try and find a copy. You cant beat a good old nature strikes back movie.Posted 21st April 2009 at 11:45 AM by Pete -
I'm a Cyborg
Great review but i have to say i'm not the biggest fan of modern Asian horror. There have beem some real gems like Audition, The Eye, Teenage Hooker Became a Killing Machine. But i prefer the old asian stuff.Posted 21st April 2009 at 10:06 AM by Pete -

Music Things
Really digging those mixes, my kinda thing. Which reminds me, was it you who ages ago (back when the shameless forum had just started) put up a post about office naps blog. If so I have to give you a massive thanks, ended up d/loading all the stuff off that blog, and is probably the greatest (and most interesting) collection of music I've ever come across. Hope we get to hear more of your adventures with music.Posted 16th April 2009 at 11:50 PM by spooks -
Gastro-Horror...
I know, utterly repellent and it that respect a near perfect example of exploitation marketing. It doesn't sell on plot, performance or any of the usual things, just a total rollercoaster ride of vomit.Posted 14th April 2009 at 04:00 PM by Sam@Cult Labs -
Gastro-Horror...
I saw the trailer for The Worm Eaters on the Grindhouse Trailers 2 dvd and it was one of the most revolting things i have ever seen.Posted 14th April 2009 at 09:50 AM by Pete -

Gastro-Horror...
That reminds me that we had some Feed placemats once made up that I used to keep tripping over. I have a feeling they may have got thrown out but if someone reminds me to look 'em out next week (if they still exist) we'll do a comp with them. Feed has a great soundtrack - well worth seeking out.Posted 12th April 2009 at 01:55 PM by Almar@Cult Labs
