If a film was released to cinema's in mono then thats what the director and sound mixer did it for, not for some future where there will be multi channel.
Watching it in mono or 2.0 is fine, its what it would have been at the cinema at the time, except with Blu ray probably with a better picture!
5.1 option is ok yes, if its done well, some are terrible, but saying your not going to buy it because its not 5.1 or 7.1 is stupid. Cutting off your nose to spite your face i think the saying goes.
