Give me the BBFC over the MPAA any day of the week. If you haven't done so already, check out 'This Film Is Not Yet Rated' by Kirby Dick which shows just how inconsistent they actually are, especially in regards to sex - films containing sexual content or nudity (especially female nudity) that have been passed uncut by the BBFC as 15, have been given 'X' ratings by the MPAA, in effect branding them as 'pornographic'. Their mantra seems to be 'violence = good, sex = bad' .

Although I do not agree with censorship in any form, I can see where the BBFC are coming from when it comes to sexualised violence, violence towards children, and animal cruelty, and I do find them to be much more consistent than the MPAA. I think it's also important to remember that the MPAA is not a censor, but an industry body which by it's very nature can't help operate in the interests of the film studios ie. ensuring that as many people get to see the films as possible. The more films that get an 'R' rating the less punters they have to turn away at the box office, even if that means letting an 8 year old into see a film like Hostel, because 'hey, it's the parents choice.'

Personally I think of the 'R' rating as closer to our 15, rather than an 18.

Look on the bright side, we could be in Australia - the website Refused-Classification.com makes for some very illuminating reading .

Anyway, having said all that, my money is on this getting passed uncut. If The Last House On The Left can get an 18, I don't see any problem with this one.
