This evening's flick:
Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?
Did I like it? Did I enjoy it? Do I think it's a good movie? Certainly not.
I loved it. I savoured it. I think it's an epic movie.
Why? Witty screenplay, fantastic performances from all actors and actresses involved (where do you get that today?!) - a timeless satire about how to advertise the stuff you wanna sell. It has everything: some moments make you grin a little, some make you giggle, and some make you snort with laughter. And be assured: 95% of the movie's jokes still work! Jayne Mansfield is gorgeous and really funny, and I loved to see the always great John Williams (check out Hitch's
To Catch A Thief!).
Highly recommended? No. It's one of the few real 'musts'.
I can also tell you which disc to buy: Eureka's 'Masters of Cinema" Blu-ray has delightful picture quality and great sound. Also included is a very nice 44-page booklet. I speak from the bottom of my heart when I declare that Eureka should also release a Blu of
The Girl Can't Help It. The flick deserves it (the Second Sight DVD is mediocre), and the company seems very apt.
Greetings!
PS: Ooo. I forgot. That's the picture I used for my Jayne poster.
