At least the original was believable - so much so that it's that what offends people. It's plausible. They start with a bit of teasing, then some harrassment and it's a gradual and slow escalation of events. Then there's the pivotal midway point where Jennifer is seen pondering her future. Does she succumb to the pain and humiliation and become a broken person, or does she become strong - stronger than the men who abused her? Strong enough to take vicious revenge. But ultimately there's no winners, it's hard to cheer Jennifer on, as she becomes as violent and heartless as her abusers.

But what does the remake offer us? Jennifer is raped and abused, disappears, then re-appears as a tough female (who couldn't even fix her plumbing before) capable of setting up elaborate traps for her tormentors. But there's no philosophy to the film, no reasoning, and shallow on logic. It trades purely on the violence and vicousness of the material without giving the viewer something to think about. It doesn't come across as an anti-rape film but as a piece of horrible filmmaking that invites us to share in her degradation for no other reason than to validate her vicious revenge. It doesn't address the complexities of the issue of how to deal with the matter of having been humiliated so thoroughly. Is revenge in this context justified? Instead of challenging the viewer it ends up as just another soulless torture horror film that is ultimately worthless and pointless.

Just my opinion, I guess you could say I didn't like it.

ya think

well true the disappearing and then becoming clever was far fetched but for some reason I still enjoyed it. so sue me
