Think my two favourites have already been picked - Once Upon a Time in the West is jar-droppingly amazing and by far my favourite. Suspiria is another, just for how much sound and fury it manages to pack into those opening 15 minutes or so!
Another would be Night of the Living Dead, lodged firmly in my mind for the impact it had on me as a child, the sheer terror of the unstoppable lone zombie shambling after Barb.
Blue Velvet is a stunner, beautifully illustrating the theme of the film in a few simple images, by turns warmly nostalgic, blackly comic, and truly nightmarish!
The opening sequence to Magnolia is probably the best part of the film, with the series of bizarre coincidences and brilliant deconstruction of the rooftop suicide / shotgun murder case . . .
