KILLER JOE. William Friedkin has been more than a little off the boil for a while, then his last film BUG turned out to be pretty decent, this film from the same writer turns out to be even better. Emile hirsch plays a down on his luck drug dealer from a trailer park who owes some serious people $6000 in cash. He strikes up a plan to get the money by hiring a cop who moonlights as a professional killer named Joe (in a supurb performance from Matthew McConaughey ) to kill his mother for the insurance, the only problem is Joe wants the money in advance. Stuck in a bind Joe proposes a 'retainer' the luckless chumps teenage sister.

This is a gritty and in places tough to watch gritty noir. It's not dull or anything, just a real uncomfortable film to watch in places. McConaughey as Joe is very scary indeed and far more frightening and dangerous than even his character in Texas chainsaw 4. Especially in the scene where he asks Gina Gershon "do you want me to wear your face" before sexually assaulting her with a piece of fried chicken.

Highly reccommended..

Next up this evening, ABRAHAM LINCOLN VAMPIRE HUNTER!
