Attack of the Werewolves (2011)

The box proudly states "If you love Shaun of the Dead you'll love this!" Words that usually bring dread to this viewer's mind. However Attack of the Werewolves actually manages to pull it off. The comedy is of a simillar vein and mainly witty character banter rather than gross out humour, although one finger cutting scene is certainly gross and very funny, and it works because as in SOTD the characters actually appear to be friends and the banter seems real.

The Werewolves, being a Spanish production, are similar to the ones featured in the films of the great Paul Naschy, and are men in makeup who walk on two legs rather than abject CGI abominations and this adds to the films likeability to me. The plot about sacrificing young people to the creatures is almost secondary because none of the film would work had the characters and Werewolves not been believable. Thankfully they are and the film is a very entertaining nights viewing.
