I never owned that Japanese disc of the first film but it was among the first DVDs from that country I saw in Cinema Store in 1998, along with stuff like HEAT and POINT BREAK which hadn't come out in the US.
I think the integrale version of LEON was the first Japanese DVD I bought and that was later on in the same year.
