They came straight out of film school to make these films and i don't deny they have talent, but take 5 mins and check out the careers of D'amato/Fulci/Argento etc. these guys learnt their trade the hard way.
The AU trilogy has 1 aim and that is to shock and repulse, it doesn't make you think or entertain.but films like Salo/Men Behind the Sun will make you think while retaining the shock value
As for well made with good effects i disagree give me AFtermath any day
