The Hunt (2012).
Mads Mikkelsen plays a new teacher at a small town Kindergarten. Word gets out that he sexually assaulted one of the children in his care and mass hysteria breaks out in the town.
The Hunt is a film that pulls you in from the very first scene and never lets go. It's utterly compelling viewing that drags you from one emotional state to another as it moves along. It's a very disturbing film portraying how a lie can escalate tensions and panic in a small community through whispers and do-gooders who have no idea of the situation. It's a film showing true horror through wrecked lives and is a far scarier proposition than all the knife wielding maniacs the horror genre can throw our way.
The acting from everyone is superb, especially Mikkelsen and Annika Wedderkopp, the young girl at the centre of it all. As with many great films, and make no mistake this is a great film, it would spoil it for others to discuss the plot too deeply here, but its one of those films that leaves the viewer on the edge of their seat from the beginning to the bone crunching final scene.
As a first time viewing this is easily the best film i've seen this year. |
