From reading the last couple of pages it's clear that it's not the animals that are the problem it's the humans, whether it be a prank or the mental instability of said person no matter how it came about.
Humans and their intelligence are the cause totally. Animals can't comprehend torture or cruelty and show no ability to be able to perform it, whereas it sadly is a very human trait. I've been brought up with animals my whole life so yes cruelty appalls me. I've become more or less desensitized to human upon human acts as we seem so good at it and over the centuries have perfected it and in certain cases seem to enjoy it.
